Chapter 3 - Outpost (3)

The guards spread out, checking the perimeter. They wanted to continue talking, but they had to ensure this human would not escape, their pride as Druin would be ruined if the humans got out of their outpost.

'Shit, time is not moving fast enough, they are getting closer. I don't want to fight, but I may have to'

As the Druin guards drew closer and closer to Seth's hiding spot, he readied his explosives. The Druin spread out around the gate scrutinizing the entrance way of each alley leading into the area, with the Druin spread out he could not kill them all with one explosion. His best bet was to take out the pair that was drawing closer to him with an explosion, swift and brutal attack and then run, but he knew if an explosion occurred near the front gate more Druin would appear, and he would have almost no way of escaping when that happened, he would need to kill as many possible without explosions.

The Druin patrol was now less than two meters away from Seth, their growls sent shivers down his spine. Seth checked his watch, and he had just over 1 minute before the gate would be blown up. He wanted to wait, he did not want to kill more Druin, he did not want to risk trying and dying but they had removed his choice from the equation as they rounded the corner of where he was hiding.

He leapt on them sword and knife in hand. He struck the first Druin so hard they flew into a wall three meters away. Seth took his sword and thrust it through the Druin armour, before drawing his blade back out and swinging the sword through the Druin's left leg and arm in a single upwards diagonal swing. The Druin now at his back fell to the ground, dead before he could hit the group or raise his voice in alarm.

The second Druin recovered after being thrown into a wall and started screaming and alerting other guards in the area. As he raised the alarm, he took off from the wall running as best he could back into the main square to regroup with the other patrols in front of the main gate.

The Druin had almost reached the main square when he saw Seth coming around the corner, sword in hand. The sword swung producing a shimmering sound before the Druin's arm thudded against the ground. His spear along with his arm was now lying lifelessly on the floor. Before he could understand what had occurred, all he could see was a cold piece of steel before it pierced his eyes and killed him.

The Druin in front of Seth slumped to the floor. As Seth pulled out his knife, he was shocked at the scene in front of him. Grey matter was flowing from the wound. Seth had killed many Druin, but each time he was still revolted with how brutal it was, how brutal he could be.

Seth moved back down the alley way out of view of the main plaza, making his way through the side streets. He was going to hit any runaway group he could find, before they regrouped, and his chance was lost.

Guerilla warfare was the name of the game now. He did not have to kill everyone, just hurt them bad enough they would struggle fighting and then move before reinforcements could come.

Moving through the buildings around the square he moved to the east side; through a window Seth saw a group of three Druin were moving back towards the main plaza on high alert. They had the most complicated route, so they were moving slower than the rest to ward themselves from an ambush.

Seth spotted this team, methodically moving through the streets, clearing each street before moving forward, directing any Druin they encountered to regroup or to go to the bunker. They continued this until Seth saw an opening, one of the Druin split off from the group. That is when he attacked. Rifle bullets struck the shield of the Druin that had broken off as they ducked and took cover. His shield had broken, but the armour had absorbed the last bit of energy from the bullets, allowing him to survive. The two Druin still in formation looked to where the bullet had been fired, but it was too late. Seth was above them. Falling from his spot just above them, with a single swing of Seths blade an arm from the Druin on the left fell. He stabbed the right one in the leg with his knife before breaking away and moving towards the third Druin. Before he could fully recover, Seth had cut off his head. He then continued running towards the east of the Plaza.

"Distraction is needed now and a big one, no more delay".

"Roger that. Change of plans how close are you to the main gate?"

"200 meters from the main gate east side of the Plaza".

"Rodger, do not get closer to the gate, explosion commencing"

Just after the voice on the communication device ended the main gate erupted in a massive explosion, send debris flying into the Plaza. Through the broken open main gate he could see the desolate planet beyond, harsh and hot, it was almost completely dark red.

Parts of the main gate rained down from the sky above Seth, forcing him to move erratically to dodge the pieces that was treating to crush him.

The Druin in front of the main gate had been knocked down by the shockwave of the blast. Other Druin's further from the gate were being crushed by the falling pieces of the gate, blood and bodies decimated under rock were strewn among the debris.

Seth kept moving forward, between the debris. He was almost free of the outpost; he could see it. He could see his way off this planet. Suddenly, a single Druin Elite anchored his legs against the ground in an attempt to stop them from shaking and stood in Seths way. Seth kept running. Drawing his pistol, he shot at the Druin. The shield that was somehow still active deflected the bullets as he continued running drawing closer as he shot continuously he lunged to the side putting his weight on his right foot before launching his right arm with his dagger and his body at the Druin Elite the blade pierced the neck of the Elite and his body followed pushing the Druin down to the floor he almost fell with the Druin but managed to stabilise himself. The Druin Elite looked into Seths eyes as he began to desperately stop the blood gushing from his neck wound, he could not stop it and soon was dead on the floor; nothing was going to stop Seth from escaping.

Seth looked back at the outpost; it was chaos.

This was always the result of his work, chaos. If he did his work well, the Druin outpost and empire would be in chaos. If he did his job poorly, the human Federation would be in chaos.

Seth finally walked out of the Druin outpost and into freedom. The air smelled fresh here, free from the stench of Druin.

"GET ON!" Yelled a small man who was covered head to toe in cloth, his beady yellow eyes poked out of his shawl.

"Mongrel, what took you so long".

"You are alive, aren't ya? I would say that is perfect timing then" he yelled.

"When did you get so annoying" said mongrel as he sat atop a Dune rider.

"This one was more defended by the Druin. They are all becoming more defended. Soon we will need teams to clear them out"

"You succeeded, didn't ya?" said Mongrel

"Yes"

"Then good. We are pushing their territory so yea they are getting desperate to stop us can ya blame them"

"I suppose not" said Seth as the Druin rider under him whirled to life and took off.
