At Krosmetics Headquarters, the morning dragged like a wound that refused to close.
Ukraine had already handed his resignation letter to Kro's secretary.
Even now, the act didn't feel real.
He had imagined many endings for his time at the company—promotion, burnout, transfer, even scandal—but never this. Never walking out because the woman he could not stop thinking about had looked him in the eye and told him to disappear from her life.
He was in Sue's office now, saying his goodbyes in fragments while the rest of the marketing team waited outside for their turn. Sue sat across from him with a face full of disappointment that she wasn't trying to hide.
"I'm sure it was a hard decision to make, Ukraine," she said.
He gave a weak laugh that held no humor.
"To be honest with you, I really want to stay."
"Then stay," Sue said immediately. "Why are you quitting? The team needs you. Krosmetics needs you."
Ukraine looked down at his hands.
