Chapter 378 - Not My Virtue

"You want me to drink it?" Hailey asked, her eyes narrowing with a slow, calculating suspicion. "So you can crawl inside my head, as if what you already do is not invasive enough?"

Her tone was light, but beneath that familiar teasing edge, there coiled something darker, something guarded. Her golden eyes glinted with wariness as her voice grew softer, tinged with a sharp distrust that had been her shield. She had always known Fang to be dangerous in ways most never noticed, his silence often more unsettling than his wrath.

Fang exhaled quietly, his shoulders rising then falling in a motion of reluctant patience. "I am going to give you memories of your childhood back," he replied, his voice even, almost cold in its steadiness. "Generally, people do not retain clarity from that age, but I can bring them back. Most of them at least."

Hailey's suspicion did not fade, though something in her expression flickered with a hunger she could not quite suppress.
