Alex considered Shumi's words for a long time before coming to a slight grimace.
"What?" Shumi asked. "Do you not want to bring salvation to the people?"
Alex shook his head quickly. "It's not that," he said. "It's just… I absolutely hate prophecies."
Shumi narrowed her eyes. "Why?"
"Because they are never clear about what they mean. Nothing is ever set in stone, and yet the seers and diviners make it sound like it is," Alex said in an annoyed tone.
"They say a prophecy can never be fully trusted, and at the same time, they act like it is the only truth. One of the prophecies said I would die, and I thought it was going to come true multiple times, but it hasn't come true quite yet. How much longer am I supposed to remain in suspense? When do I come to believe that it just isn't true?"
