Chapter 8 - Exploring the Abyss

Ren who was lying unconscious on the ground slowly opened his eyes. He looked at both directions before rising up. The damage he took from the previous events still lingered in his body. To stand up, he touched the ground with his hands. Slowly, Ren's upper body was already up. He looked at his surroundings again.

As he was mesmerizing the feel of his body and the surroundings, Ren looked at the palm of his right hand. After that, he feeled the wounds on his body as he was only to find that they were slightly healed. He touched the wound on his back. Ren then proceeded to the wound the Death Reaper dealt to him. He noticed that the hole on his body got smaller. As he inspected it, he muttered...

"Huh?...Why is the wound smaller than before? Not only that but the wound on my back is pretty much closed. Why is it..."

While Ren was inspecting his body, he felt a cold breeze touch his body. The room was completely sealed but somehow, there was a breeze blowing. Ren looked around for any kind of opening but didn't find one...Until he looked at the Death Reaper's carcass...

"A door...", Ren muttered in shock.

A small door was present at where the Death Reaper once stood. It was at the farthest part of the room, under a wall with strange figures. Ren completely stood up and slowly walked towards the door. It wasn't fully opened but it was certainly unlocked. Ren touched the door knob and pushed it. Behind the door where stairs that lead below the floor he was currently on.

"When did this door open? In the first place, was there a door here before?, Ren asked himself.

As Ren entered, he stopped and looked at the door that was at his right. The door had some weird writing on it and grooves that formed a circle at it's center. Ren ignored it and continued on, stepping on the first stair. He then went down the stairs as he placed his left hand on the walls while walking. His movement while going down each stair placed incredible pain on his body. It felt like he was placed on hard torture and the wound on his back would open again.

30 minutes of extreme pain and Ren reached the bottom. As he looked around, a room about the size of a regular hotel room welcomed him. It was slightly lit by burning torches found at the walls. And in those walls where arcs that formed windows but without view of the other side. In the center of the room was a circle with lines and shapes in it resembling that of what you can find in ancient Aztec ruins.

There was nothing special about the room, but the room itself give off a spooky feeling that would make horror movie addicts tremble in fear. But to Ren, it was nothing compared to what he experienced in the past and recently.

He slowly approached the center, hoping to find something distinct in the room. Like a spot to rest or a switch that will open the closed door above.

When Ren just reached the center, a pain inside him appeared and disappered, quickly as a bubble. Ren paused wondering what that pain was, when that slight pain turned to a sensation like a pot placed above fire. Feeling the pain, Ren tightly held his stomach with both hands. He then bended his upper body and coughed lots of blood. After a while, he coughed blood again as he completely falls on both his knees.

Just what was that pain that Ren was experiencing, Ren himself wondered while crying in pain. He thought that the pain would eventually dissipate so he endured it. But he was wrong.

The pain he felt increased as to what seemed like a person who was thrown to hell while being beaten up by the devils. The pain was excruciating that Ren fell on the ground, with his face pale and blood starting to drip from his ears and nose. It was followed by more coughing of blood.

The event was enough to be considered bloody gory even without limbs being cut off and innards flying about or rather becoming outards. At this time, Ren was only thinking...

'What the hell is this pain I'm feeling! Please...make it stop... Please!'

Ren was crying outside and pleading inside. And the pain continued for an hour. Most people who experience the pain Ren is feeling, they would've passed out already. But everytime Ren was about to lose consciousness, he would muster the remainder of his strength and will. Such a thing is impossible without training the mind to another level.

An hour passed and the pain was slowly fading. Ren breathed in relief as the extreme pain he was feeling faded. He wanted to stand but could not. His struggle has left his body weary and his mind on the verge of going crazy. Anyone who experience pain without even knowing why and how would really lose it. And to avoid that, Ren closed his eyes and was about sleep.

The tired and fatigued body of Ren made it easy for him to fall asleep. He slept like someone who was having a nightmare as his face showed a worried and terrified expression.
