Chapter 16 - Side Story — Elize Route

The villainess's daughter of the game, a girl named Elize, was born into one of the best cradles of the empire.

The only daughter and heiress of Duke Rosenberg.

This is the story of the villainess until her end.

◇◇◇

Elize was walking down a corridor with her entourage.

After a few steps, she found something that bothered her greatly.

It was her fiancé, Prince Regulux, holding hands with a woman.

Elize didn't mind her fiancé holding another woman's hand.

What bothered her was that he was doing it with a woman of common origin.

"Your Highness, may I ask you to refrain from doing that?"

Regulux turned around annoyed to see his fiancée's face.

"Elize, I remember telling you not to speak to me while we are within the academy grounds, didn't I?"

"I remember, but that was about palace affairs. Not about women who want to gain something by offering their services."

Elize's gaze intensely watched the poor girl who hid behind the prince.

Regulux noticed that and became very angry.

"Elize, you! I won't tolerate you disrespecting Lily!"

Regulux got angry and took Lily's hand to leave.

Before they left, Elize looked at Lily's face, which was showing a dark glow for some reason.

After they left, a girl from her entourage said.

"Miss Elize, is this alright?"

She didn't look at the girl, only responded.

"If that's what he wants."

She felt no affection towards him.

She only cared about the well-being of her house.

Elize was willing to marry an old, fat, unpleasant man if necessary.

Her feet moved to continue, not before observing someone sitting in the garden.

It was there that her eyes changed expression to one of pure hatred.

◇◇◇

Elize was sitting in one of the garden chairs.

She was holding her head; she was hungry.

The reason for this was because the director had called her to his office.

There, were Prince Regulux and Lily.

His expression was one of victorious and arrogant smile.

"Why was I called here, Director?"

The director looked at Elize worriedly.

"Miss Rosenberg, I have heard from your fiancé that you have sent members of your entourage to torment Miss Lily, is that true?"

Before Elize could respond, the prince said.

"It's not a question, Director. It's an affirmation! I personally interrogated those girls, and they said they were part of that woman's entourage!"

Regulux pointed at her with his index finger.

Elize looked at him with an irritated face, not at him, but at Lily.

She knew that wasn't true.

But she couldn't tell if those girls really did it because they thought she was upset or because they really hated this girl.

Since the Rosenberg Household was a house in ruins, her vassals had left, almost all of them; they had to accept people of dubious reputation to serve them.

Elize felt no attachment to any of them, but she had no choice.

"You are mistaken, Your Highness. I did not send anyone to intimidate that woman."

"You lie!"

Regulux shouted annoyed because Elize didn't admit it.

"You are truly a horrible woman! Why don't you admit it? You're so jealous of my relationship with Lily!"

Elize felt a pang in her heart.

Her mouth moved and said something unexpected.

"Are you such an idiot that you don't realize that woman is using you?"

She covered her mouth, not understanding why she said it.

Unfortunately, Elize was suspended for a week for offending the prince.

◇◇◇

Elize was at home. The office that was her father's was now occupied by her mother, the Duchess Rosenberg.

"Eli... why did you do it?"

"I'm sorry."

Her mother was known as a harpy in the game.

A horrendous woman who, after driving away or getting rid of her husband, took full control of the Duke's house.

The current head, a woman named Barbara, was talking to her daughter in a tone that was both reproachful and comforting.

"Mother, I'm sorry, it slipped out."

"I understand. I know it's horrible to put you through this, but we have no choice. Thanks to that man, we have to live with the consequences of his actions."

"Mother, do you hate my father?"

Her mother's mouth moved slightly.

"I hate him deeply. I didn't care if he wanted to spend money on women, alcohol, slaves, or other grotesque services. I hate him because he preferred to stay silent and flee, watching the house his family built for years' crumble by his own hands."

Her mother began to cry.

"I... really don't want to put you through this! Even if that prince is a stupid and dirty bastard. We have no choice but this; the imperial palace accepted your engagement years ago. If we were to cancel it, it would be the end of us. We would have to live on the street or in the red district, selling our bodies for a plate of food."

Her mother stood up and went to hug her daughter.

"I'm so sorry, I'm sorry, just endure it. I'll support you in everything you want. Unlike me, I'd like you to be happy."

Tears fell from that woman who was considered a harpy in the game.

Elize also began to cry and hugged her mother tightly.

"It's so frustrating! That commoner is brainwashing him, and he doesn't realize she's just using him!"

"It's truly frustrating and painful to have to swallow what I feel! I want to scream, Mom!"

"It's okay, my girl, just resist until you restore the house and have an heir. After that, you can live separated from him, being only his legal wife."

That's what Elize remembered while sitting; her stomach was hungry since she hadn't eaten anything due to lack of money.

Then, a student sat near her.

Noticing the student, her eyes widened like saucers.

"Aah..."

She murmured something while watching the student eat.

The student just looked at her and said: "Want one? I have plenty."

It was embarrassing to ask for food from another. Even more so since Elize knew that boy.

She turned her face away from him and responded: "No, thank you."

Her stomach made a loud noise.

She wanted to cry from the shame of not having anything to eat.

The student stood up and left.

Elize quickly lifted her gaze to see his back.

Then her eyes began to get wet. Not before noticing that the student's food container was near her.

She cried.

She didn't know why, but each bite made her shed tears.

◇◇◇

The years passed.

"That despicable and damned woman!"

Elize was changing into an elegant dress.

"May both he and that woman burn in hell together!" —Today was the graduation party for the students.

"I haven't been calm for two years for them to come and spit in my face like this!"

A few minutes ago, a letter came through her door.

Elize no longer had an entourage since they either abandoned her or were expelled.

So now she had to do things alone.

The letter said:

"We're breaking up. I finally got palace approval, and our engagement is broken. I will be with the one I truly love, not an ugly-hearted woman like you, hahaha."

Elize got angry like never before while angry tears ran down her cheeks.

She furtively left her room after dressing.

Upon arriving at the grand party hall, she found the prince holding hands with Lily.

Elize shouted.

"What is the meaning of this, Your Highness!"

Everyone stopped to look at Elize.

Regulux, the other boys, and Lily turned to see who was making a scene.

There, everyone's gazes were dark.

"What are you referring to?"

"Don't play dumb! You know very well what I'm talking about!"

The villainess's face and her dialogues aligned as her final event dictated.

"Oh, that."

Regulux smiled; it was a perverse smile.

"What don't you understand? Lily understands me better than anyone. She doesn't see me, like you and others, as a fool they can profit from for their own interests. She's the first person who sees me as a human being."

"For that reason, and because she possesses great healing power, the palace and the temple agree."

Elize looked at him with a tense face.

Don't you understand that those same people are your enemies? They seek to use you, and that's why they don't care who they trample.

"Your Highness, the woman by your side doesn't know etiquette or nobility, does she? Does Your Highness really want this woman to be part of the imperial family?"

Regulux mocked her.

"Don't talk nonsense! Her kindness is what this country needs. I don't need you to reproach me about anything. In the first place, we know all about the harassment you've caused poor Lily! An ugly woman in appearance and heart, that's what you are!"

The surroundings laughed at Elize.

"It's true, how pathetic must you be for your fiancé to leave you for another?"

"I bet she cheated on him, and that's why the prince acted like this."

"Everyone, say it with me. Apologize, horrendous woman!"

Regulux pointed at Elize exactly as in the game; even the same dialogue was there, but that dialogue seemed sinister compared to the game.

"Apologize!"

"Apologize!"

"Apologize!"

"Apologize!"

"Apologize!"

"Apologize!"

"Apologize!"

"Apologize!"

"Apologize!"

Elize could no longer bear the harsh voices around her and turned to leave.

At that moment, Lily stopped her and said words that made her sanity break.

"Let's get along, Elize-san. Together we can be the prince's women."

After turning around, she glared at Lily, who was smiling.

What the hell is this woman talking about? You were the one who made me suffer for two years!

And you want us to get along? How long will that woman keep mocking me?

Regulux supported what Lily said.

"See! As expected of the future saint of the empire. Her heart is so big that she's willing to forgive and be friends with a horrendous woman like the duke's daughter."

She couldn't take it anymore.

She took off a glove and threw it in Lily's face; the glove was quickly caught by Lambert.

The prince's expression changed from mockery to anger.

"You... horrendous woman, how dare you do that to my future wife? Unforgivable!"

Regulux took his hand and lovingly said.

"Lily, accept the duel. I will be your representative. There's nothing to fear; I will end any pest or danger that threatens our peace and love."

"If His Highness will participate, I will be his sword and yours, of course."

Said Lambert, adjusting the decorative sword he had.

"If there's a fight, count me in. I'll finish anyone for Lily's sake!"

Added Bellange, hitting his right palm with his fist.

"Heavens, I cannot allow a lady to be in danger over such foolishness. Lily-san, I will also fight by your side as your representative."

Expressed Oscar while adjusting his tie.

"Hey, hey, you must be really out of your mind to challenge my future wife. No matter who it is, the Fitzclarence Household has already declared her as the next lady of the future head."

Indicated Jake, smiling arrogantly.

After seeing his companions who also wanted to fight for the same woman, Regulux, with the glove in his hand, pointed at Elize.

"Elize, it's decided! The five of us will be her representatives! Now, choose your representatives."

Elize knew what she did was stupid, but that Lily smiled at her after all that managed to darken her calm heart.

"... I'll fight alone."

She said that because no one could help her.

The five smiled, and the prince proclaimed.

"Fine. If you win, I'll leave Lily! But if I win, and I will win, since the power of our love is bigger and stronger than anything. You will be severely punished for opposing the prince's future wife and the saint of the empire!"

Elize said nothing and just watched the man who was to be her husband hold the hand of a woman unfit for a member of the royal family.

And so, the destined day arrived. And as expected, Elize had to fight against the five.

Unlike the game, the duel between several men against one woman was a grotesque event for those who didn't support the prince nor were Elize's allies, but who felt sorry for her.

The end of the villainess's daughter undoubtedly came to pave the way for the protagonist's happy world.

◇◇◇

It was the central square of the imperial capital.

Climbing some stairs was Elize, the former villainess's daughter.

She is called "former" because, thanks to her ex-fiancé, she lost her title, and her house was completely destroyed.

Her mother was exiled from the country, but for some reason, the knights escorting her to the border reported that bandits attacked them and they couldn't protect the former duchess.

They said this while calmly drinking wine.

Elize was covered in bruises, whip marks, malnourished from not eating for days, and with a look of no longer caring about her life.

Until moments ago, she was in a damp and cold prison, crying.

This was the fate that awaited the cruel villainess's daughter.

A horrendous girl who only wanted to save her house.

Elize, with her lifeless eyes, watched in the distance as they laughed at her and booed her.

On a platform was the prince, her ex-fiancé, the good-hearted capture target and lover of peace; that same individual ate popcorn while holding Lily's hand, whose eyes were also lifeless.

It was then that Elize finally noticed that Lily was another victim.

A victim of something called "a game plot for girls."

As the noose was placed around her neck and broadcast live for everyone.

Elize remembered something while the executioner placed his hand on a button.

"I want to play with you again... Razel."

A tear fell as Elize's legs dangled in the air.

That was the end of the cruel villainess.

But, at this moment. Something unexpected was happening.

The event of her ruin was brought forward and in an unexpected way.

But besides that.

"What do you think you're doing?"

A simple-looking boy named Razel had thrown a plate in the direction of Prince Regulux.

Lambert stopped it. Everyone's gaze, especially Elize's who was crying, turned towards him.

"I'm sorry. I wanted to kill a despicable fly, but I failed."

Elize shed tears.

They weren't tears of pain, but of happiness.

She had only one discomfort, a heart's desire.

That desire was to return to the happiest stage of her life.

"... Razel."

And, that desire was fulfilled.

The world's destiny is not written in stone.

If there exists an outcome where misfortune befalls everyone, there will be someone who puts an end to that cycle.

And that someone is a light shining in the deepest darkness.

And the villainess's daughter found that light she wanted to see again, to never let it go again.
