Chapter 434 - Tropes [#8]

Garren hummed softly as his fingers traced gently against the darkness of his home. The sun was rising on the horizon, and his episode had just ended and he received yet another two new tropes, this time an [Archetype Trope] that he quite liked alongside a [Background Trope] that he knew would be quite useful since now this world had combat, horror, and death- He summoned his status screen, smiling at what he saw:

—x—

-Status-

Name: Garren "Top" Maverick

Age: 17

Gender: Male

Archetype: Loner

Unique Trope: [Trope Master - Gaze upon others and see their tropes, detect tropes happening in the world around you.]

Background: Mystical Source

Archetype Tropes -

> [Lonely - Being alone is not so bad, but being lonely is not great.

Effects: You can, whenever you want to, become "alone". This makes you harder to perceive by others, essentially hiding you from them. Expect curious or extra extrovert characters to notice you more easily.]

> [Mysterious Aura - You are always alone, why is that? Such a mystery.

Effects: You carry with yourself an air of mistery. This mystery can be anything! From being part of a hidden shadow organization to simply having a rather interesting secret.

Expect to become a relevant character after Season 1.]

> [Chill or Kill - You are lonely most of the time... Is it because you're just calm, or is it because you're violent?

Effects: You can, whenever you want, to choose Chill or Kill.

Chill - You are calm and collected. Gives you a small resistance to [Charm], [Savvy], and [Mind Control] tropes.

Kill - You are aggressive and abrasive. Gives you a small boost to all your [Grit], [Mettle], and [Combat] tropes.

> [Mysterious Man - You, my friend, is quite the mysterious one!

Effects: So long as you wish to, you can ignore most [Insight] tropes. They won't give any information about you.

Side-Effects: The lack of information is still information! This makes so anyone who you block an [Insight] trope from will become [Curious] about you and wish to learn who you are....]

[Regular Tropes]

> [He's Just Standing There. Menacingly! - Sometimes, just standing is more than enough to scare other people...

Effects: The longer you stand still, the more menacing your presence seems to grow. This can intimidate or scare others, has a nice bonus to [Scare Factor] whenever you are standing in shadows.]

> [Nerds are Hot - You, unlike other people who think Nerds are either weird or dorky, find them attractive.

Effect: This trope allows you to ignore most negative effects of [Nerd] tropes used on you or used by you. If the trope is strong enough, it still affects you but to a lesser degree

Side Effects: Well... it's in the name.]

> [White Knight in Shitty Armor]

Description: Like a white knight, you are ready to save the princess- or prince. Not judging!

Effects: Whenever you trigger the conditions of this trope, you can activate it. All [Defensive] tropes have a boost whenever used on your Prince(ss).

Side Effects - Whenever activated, your outfit will be destroyed or otherwise damaged... could be a bonus point?]

> [Shadow Puppetry: Is it a... dog? A cat? Well, its hard to tell. You suck at this whole shadow puppet thing.

Effects: You can control the shadows around you to form intangible shapes. This Trope cannot conjure shadows or darkness, you must use the provided darkness that surrounds you. However, this Trope does allow other [Magic] Tropes to work alongside it or through it, if acted accordingly. This trop also allows you to clearly see in the dark!]

> [Lord of the Castle: I, Lord Castleton the 33th, am the owner of this land!

Effects: All [Bases] you own are now under your absolute control. All beings within your [Bases] must acknowledge that you are the lord of the territory and obey your rules.

As long as you are within your own territory, you can control and negate any Tropes within that are affecting your territory or other individuals.

Negated Tropes do not work for a few hours.

Controlled Tropes become yours to use for a few hours, depending on the trope's power and archetypal categorization.

Side-effects: You might act a bit more arrogantly within your territory. Expect to be more demanding and socially dominant.]

[Background]

> [Mystical Source - Mystical and magical things seem to happen around you for reasons beyond your understanding. You might find that you have something or are Mystical as well...

Effect - This Background Trop allows you to use the following 6 Background Tropes.

Side-effects: You seem to be a magnet for Mystical and Supernatural things...]

1 - [In the Bones - Like a calcified weather frog, you can feel it in your bones!

Effects: You can feel the presence of things and beings around you, knowing where they are.]

2 - [Mystical Hoarder - A normal hoarder is already bad enough, imagine one who collects weird trinkets?

Effects: There never seems to have a limit of space for storing things of supernatural or mystical origin within your base.]

3 - [Secretkeeper - A secret kept is a secret never muttered.

Effect: Those who have seen your more... supernatural or mystical abilities tend to be more silent about them. Be it disbelief, fear, or anything that makes them not share what they saw, felt, or heard.]

4 - [Mindblank - An empty mind is the devil's workshop- a blank mind? The devil's home!

Effect: Your mind is carefully kept blank from any thought. Nobody seems able to get a glimpse of what you're thinking or feeling, making you immune to various types of magics.]

5 - [Fearless - Fear is an instict to know when you're in danger- but you? You are the danger.

Effects: You don't feel fear, but you can easilt incite it within others, even accidentally.]

6 - [Source of Mystery - You are the source of mystery of your world. Be it magic, extremely advanced and alien technology, or simply psychic powers, you seem to always have a way forward.

Effects: Allows you to imitate one of the following three tropes:

- [Magical Mike is Me]

- [Mad Science? Hardly!]

- [Ghost in my Brains]

Side-effects: Be careful not to push too hard.]

[Location Tropes]

> [Monster House: A house that is alive? In an animated, feel-good world, that would be fun. But in a horror one? That is not that fun.

Effects: This trope makes you [Base] into a [Being] that you have control over. Allows the [Base] to equip the [It's Alive!], [Whispers in the Dark], [Wood Being], and [Winchester's Maze] Tropes.

Due to you owning this place, all Tropes do not affect you and can be controlled by you or the house.

Can be upgraded.]

> [It's Alive!: Something that shouldn't be alive alive, somehow, is. Now it's your problem!

Effects: Turns whatever this Trope is equipped on into a living being. Be it corpses, non-living beings, undead beings, and even objects!]

> [Whispers in the Dark: Is that somebody calling your name? No, it must've been in your head.

Effects: Odd noises happen all around this location. You never know if the whispers in the dark are from something or just your imagination.]

> [Wood Being: Hard, flexible, and very flammable! Well, if it is dry.

Effect: Turns the user's body that has this trope into being made completely out of wood. Nothing out of the ordinary changes besides them being susceptible to fire and not having internal organs anymore.]

> [Winchester's Maze: Is that a door that leads to nowhere? Oh, a staircase that is ok the ceiling? Oh fuck, is that a room within a room within a room with a door that leads to the living room?

Effects: Architecture seems to be very confusing and even reality bending in weird ways on the location you're in. Unless you have a guide, you will surely get lost inside.]

He had a rather grand collection of tropes— Ranging from intimidating tropes such as [He's Just Standing There. Menacingly!], his purely harmless yet useful trope such as [Shadow Puppetry] (which he compared it to illusion magic), and now his trope that could potentially grant him a lot of power. His [Source of Mystery] trope allowed him to mimic three different tropes and their powers, one focusing on magic, one focusing on mad science, and one focusing on psychic powers! The difference between these three was for the audience to see, meaning that whatever he showed, would break or make the audience's expectations about the world he lived in. So, as he gazed at the rising sun, he patted Mr. Hades and began to smirk...

The storm that had come overnight was gone just as fast as it had appeared, having served its purpose as mood settler, and after his romantic dinner with (a third wheel) his adorable boyfriend— which yes, he is oretty sure they're dating now, since he has practically sucked the soul out of his body through kisses —he sent him home with Larry, the two boys awkwardly not knowing exactly how to act around each other.

"Operation 'Become the Main Character' is going so good I already have a love interest." A chuckle left his lips as he weaved shadows, his new little shadowy rabbit known as Lucifer jumped right into his lap as Mr. Hades went through the window to swat at Erebus, much to the raven's annoyance. "Now, I just... Well, world's mood has been established... It will probably become a whole new thing, focusing more on the supernatural aspects instead of the original sitcom vibes." And he was prepared to become the head of such changes- he already had planned a whole damn entire arc that would be the first "official" season of his show, about him and Kenny... Oh yes, he can see it.

No, no Twilight! He isn't going to play a fucking creepy vampire guy who is more than 500 years old and somehow gets a crush on a teen girl or something. Not Teen Wolf either. He is not going to play the brooding werewolf boy who doesn't know how to communicate and ends up getting complicated emotions for a fucking jeep— He has a secret, third opion taken from the depths of the fanfic realms!

Since he wants this "series" to be entertaining, he will do something he has never seen before- he will be the villain.

That's right. His series? He will be the main villain protagonist! The plot twist? He's not actually that evil, he is just the embodiment of evils, and Kenny is the embodiment of all that is good, and they have been chasing each other through lifetimes upon lifetimes, always getting together. "This is the gayest thing, ever- it's perfect." With the new Operation "Reincarnation Supernatural Gay Powerhouses of Magic" on the run, he already knew what angle he wanted the series to go with; Kenny starts noticing things, they have the reveal that he is something supernatural, then the supernatural shenanigans start happening, then Kenny starts to show magical powers of good, then there's the big reveal they have been lovers through countless lives, always finding each other.

Gay, sappy, romantic...

But it needs the 2000's era little sprinkle of teen drama. It needs a bit of pizzazz, maybe a—

"Oh, I got just the thing."

—murder mystery.

-Scene Cut-

Kenny didn't know exactly how to act after Larry found out his big secret; That he was gay. It was, uhm, kinda awkward? He used to have a small crush on his best friend, and then... He entered his life.

Oh, Garren was a dream come true.

A wet one, to be sure!

Not only could he cook, he could make him swoon like he was just a leaf in the wind! It was awkward that his best friend had to find out this way, but Kenny persisted. After dining with his, uhm, "friend", he went straight to Larry's house. It was a blur after that, they went to Larry bedroom and then they just... had a sleepover.

They didn't speak about it, until morning.

"So, you and, uh, Garry, huh?" Larry awkwardly muttered as they, together, stepped into school ground. The doors were wide open, and a crowd was forming at the entrance. Kenny was a bit disappointed he didn't see Garren anywhere for a moment before he focused back on Larry: "Listen, you're my best friend, I want you to know that I will always—"

"Is that-"

"Oh fuck!"

"Oh gods..."

"Holy shit! The principal is dead!"

"-support... you..."

Now that they were closer, he saw why they had a crowd at the entrance of the school- police, yellow tape, and a lot of blood. Right by the entrance, although the cops of their small town were trying to conceal it, was the body of Director Brown...And he was dead.

'What...?' Kenny suddenly had the urge to look up, and he saw right by the shadows of the back, by the trees, stood his... maybe kinda boyfriend. But what his eyes focused on was the silvery blade he hid away, and the fact that it had blood on it.
