In East European folklore, especially the Romanian folklore, a Moroi is a type of undead and an evil spirit that is often associated with restless dead, vampiric nature, night spirits, and shape-shifting. Legend says that Moroi, an evil being linked with graveyards and battlefields where the dead remained unsettled, brings forth curses, sickness, and a deadly plague.
As days passed, the people of Transylvania, Budapest, Moldova, Belgrade, Wallachia, and Silistra began to associate the strange disease spreading across Eastern Europe with the Fiend of the malevolent being Moroi.
