They both look stunned at how Kadachi was acting. There was a long pause of silence among us until Rin tugged at her father's sleeve and bowed in front of me.
"Father has been having bad mood swings of late sister, I'm sure you're aware of his recent prognosis of Alzheimer's. Please forgive him for his recent cruel and disrespectful words he is just not himself."
(Well this is unexpected...)
I look around to see people starting to turn their attention over toward all of us.
(She's putting on a show, I need to turn the tables.)
I force myself to tear up.
"He has Alzheimer's?! Why wasn't I informed of this when it was diagnosed!"
Kadachi buries my head into his chest and a familiar voice rings out among the crowd.
"How disrespectful can you be coming here to bring bad news on such a beautiful day? This day wasn't meant for drama it's a day to rejoice in. You all should be ashamed of yourselves!"
I couldn't help but grin as I hear Rin gasp.
"N-no this is just a big misunderstanding!"
I quickly wipe the fake tears off and push away from Kadachi. I walk over to Rin and take her hands into mine.
"Dear sister it's ok I believe you, it was just a shock to learn of this don't mind the crowd, I know that today is your birthday and this day should be shared right?"
I could see her face go pale as more whispers are heard.
"Wow, she came to take all the attention away from her own sister! How desperate can one be that's disgusting."
Another one is heard.
"Kairi is so sweet, how can she be related to such parasites."
I grin at her and she pulls away from me.
"I...I think it'll be best if we leave, Goodnight."
(Perfect.)
As she turns around to leave Kadachi grabs a hold of my hand and leads me through the crowd.
(He's holding me so firmly, I wonder what's wrong.)
As he pulls me into the corridor our pace has turned from fast walking to running.
"Kadachi slow down! Where are we going?"
I feel his grip tighten.
"My Mother is dying."
(W-what...)
Shocked by what he has just said I stay silent until we finally reach his parent's bedroom. Once he pushes the doors open all you see are Drs and nurses rushing everywhere all over yelling at each other while Mr. Sheng sat next to his sleeping wife holding her hand in his looking at her face with so much worry.
A Dr approaches us and greets us.
"Hello, Mr. Sheng and Mrs. Sheng."
He bows to us in respect before handing Kadachi a clipboard.
"You were right it is poison, we have been able to stabilize her but the antidote is needed for this type of poison. The problem is though this poison has never been seen before so we aren't sure exactly what we're working with here but I can assure you we will do our best to find the cure!"
Kadachi nods before handing the clipboard back to the Dr.
"Call me if anything changes good or bad. I have some work to do and if you can't reach me call my bodyguard."
The Dr nods and rushes off. I watch helplessly as they connect her to a bunch of wires and tubes.
(Who could have done this to her...She's such a good person I can't understand this...)
I clutch the hem of my sleeves and feel Kadachi throw his arm around my waist to lead me out.
"Let's give them some time to deal with this while we do some investigating."
I smile.
"Yes, let's try to be productive as well in this."
(I can't imagine how helpless Kadachi is feeling right now, I should help out as much as I can too!)
( A few hours later)
I plop down onto the bed and lay on my back sighing as I recall the past few hours.
After we started to investigate we looked at CCTV footage, talked to guards and guests. No one saw anything or anyone. Mrs. Sheng was fine all the way up until after Mr. Sheng gave his speech. Something happened in between the time the party started up until when Kadachi came to get me.
(I feel like this is all way out of my league...I feel so useless!)
I sigh and sit back up feeling the need go shower, I take my dress off along with all of my accessories and throw on a robe.
(I'll go sit in the bath and try to relax.)
As I make my way to the bath I pause as I hear distant whispering. As I follow the sound I come across Kadachi talking to some people I couldn't see, they walk outside towards the garden.
(why do I get a feeling I should follow them...)
I grit my teeth as I finally make up my mind me follow them, I keep a good distance away as they stop near a light post, I stay behind a tree.
"The intel we got isn't credible."
I hear Kadachi sigh in frustration.
"I don't care just tell me something!"
"There is word that a new cartel and businessman from country A has appeared from the lower ranks, they have been targeting upper-class women in different districts. But their MO always involves young women. No one over the age of 35 has ever been targeted."
(Are there actually real problems like this? I thought it was just all exaggerated but this sounds huge.)
Just then I get a sense of being watched and quickly turn around but as I do I'm pushed up against the tree with one hand over my mouth and another holding my wrist when I had instinctively tried to hit the person. I gasp but stay silent as I hear a familiar voice whisper in my ear.
"Shhh, or we will be caught spying."
