Chapter 33 - Just A Pawn Part: 2

Once at Ikaku's villa, we were taken to separate rooms as a few Drs and nurses came to treat us.

Ikaku soon walks in with what I assume to be Kairi's Dr.

"Hello Mr. Sheng, I'm the head Dr for the Hatori family. My name is Xiao Dior. You both were very lucky tonight, The knife wound you sustained narrowly missed a major artery but will heal with time and antibiotics to keep infection away."

He pauses for a second before looking at Ikaku who nods.

"But, your wife isn't out of danger. Though the gunshot wound didn't hit anything major and she will heal from that we were able to successfully remove the bullet and its fragments. She is having a reaction of some sort and infection has already started so she will have to stay here for treatment and more observation."

My heart aches and I place my hand over my eyes as I lay back into the bed.

"It seems we just can't catch a break eh?"

Ikaku chuckles mockingly.

"Wow didn't know a cold tycoon like yourself could admit defeat so easily, what a pathetic excuse as an agent of CROW."

I instantly look up at him in disbelief.

"That's information I have never told even Kairi so how do you know about CROW."

The dr shakes his head as he looks annoyed.

" I have to get back in the room you can come see her once you have regained enough strength to walk on your own…Though you should be extremely careful about reopening the wound."

I nod as he walks out I move my legs off the side of the bed and am about to get up but is instantly pushed back down into the bed.

"What the hell Ikaku!"

Ikaku throws a pillow at my face.

"Your an idiot for thinking no one could know about CROW in the first place, secondly, you stupid for what happened tonight not to mention how reckless and irresponsible you have been since that girl entered your life, You took an oath and-"

I boil with anger and throw the pillow back into his face but he catches it with ease. I grit my teeth and clench my fist.

"Dont lecture me-"

Just then he grabs me by the collar of my shirt and lifts me up to meet his gaze, we were close in height but considering my side was killing me and my body in complete fatigue I was unable to pull away.

"Then step the fuck up and quit being stupid. You were different than before and you need to take action before she!-"

He points to the wall where on the other side of the wall lay Kairi.

"Ends up dead, your mother already paid the price and so many others you don't even know about, all because you won't do what's actually necessary."

He throws me down onto the bed and places his hands on his hips while giving me an angry look, one could tell he was being ruthless but considering how long I have known him I couldn't help but chuckle.

(He's saying this because…He's trying to keep me motivated.)

"Alright I get the point but answer me, how do you know about CROW."

Ikaku reaches into his pocket and hands me an envelope.

"Read this on your own time, Considering part of CROW's rules mean we will not know who our allies are, this rule was put into place to keep our corporation in complete darkness and correspondence on one to one basis as we work under the direct supervision of the magistrate. My father has made the exception of putting our two groups together considering the connections we made on our end. More details lay in that envelope burn it when you are finished as usual."

I take the envelope into my hands but look towards the door and can't help but be worried about Kairi.

"I really don't understand why CROW would be interested in my affairs…My last mission was to win Kairi over…But it seems she's won me."

I shake my head and Ikaku sighs as he leans his back onto the wall.

"I don't know much of the details concerning the two of you but what does the mission entail?"

I set the folder to the side.

"I knew Kairi when we were young, it's not that I didn't have feelings before I decided to marry her but my mission started soon after accepting CROW's invitation. My first mission was to get close to her when she turned of age and locate her missing mother. I had no idea that she was related to Kaito Masumi till about a year ago. I don't think anyone knew she was being hidden away herself and knew nothing of anything at all. My mission ended soon after meeting Kaito and now my mission lies with investigating him instead."

Ikaku looks at me intently before looking at the file.

"In those files is all of my 5 years' worth of investigation, that girl isn't who anyone thinks she truly is. I don't know how our investigations were intended to connect but Kairi is not Kairi, her real name is Kaori Hitori."

My eyes widen and I instantly shake my head.

"But that doesn't make any sense I ran the DNA test just as Kaito did just to be sure, but-"

Just then I pause as I remember Kota.

(Kota…He was the one who helped me with that task…)

"I can tell by your expression you now seem doubtful as well?"

(But wait…Kaito ran it too so how can…)

"There were two DNA tests done both from Kaito and from me, both came back positive so how do you know they are wrong?"

Ikaku chuckles.

"Because her mother is my mother's sister who married into the Masumi family, she is not widely known because my family has kept it under pretty tight wraps. It's a…family secret as one would say."

He clears his throat.

"This must stay between us."

I nod and he continues.

(Kairi pov)

As I begin to wake up I'm instantly hit with an intense pain radiating from my shoulder and neck. I try to speak but nothing comes out, my eyes have a hard time focusing as everything seems extremely bright and blurry.

(What's going on? Where am I?)

I move my uninjured arm up to my face touching it.

(Why does everything feel so…Weird)

"Oh look she's waking up Dr!"

(I can hear some voices but everything feels so distorted...)

"Mrs. Kairi? Can you hear me?"

I feel a hand on mine as they remove my hand away from my eyes, I then feel a hand placed onto my forehead.

"She's burning-get-Dr she's fading!"

(Kadachi pov)

As the conversation seemed to be at its climax I look at the papers in horror as many dots begin to connect.

"You ok Kadachi?"

I chuckle as I place my hands onto my head.

"A lot of people Ikaku…A lot of people are about to die…are you sure it's ok showing this to me?"

Ikaku shrugs.

"They asked me to, so do as you wish with what you have but I must warn you about something else-"

Just then a nurse busts through the door out of breath and looking disheveled.

"M-Master Ikaku, Yo-you must get in here now! It's Mrs. Kairi it seems something is wrong!"

We both instantly stand up and rush after the nurse, once entering the room we immediately stop once in the room, as if time had slowed or maybe the scene was just too much in that moment I pause, and Ikaku instantly takes initiative as I watch as 4 nurses and 2 Drs stand around the bed doing multiple different things to her.

"What happened?"

Ikaku steps in to assist a Dr with something laying on the bedside. I walk over to where they were standing and spot a broken capsule.

"We aren't sure what this is but it was found inside the bullet that we took out of her shoulder it looks like it still has some substance in it I can try to go test but right now we need to do something about her fever. It's so high that when she woke up she acted as if she couldn't see, she would not respond, and when she tried to speak she could not. It seems she's been poisoned with something I need someone to hold her under the shower and it can't be you!"

I jump a little startled as he points to me.

"W-What why not?!"

Ikaku walks over to me and flicks my side, I'm instantly brought to my knees.

"Because you idiot, your dressings and wound can't get wet! Your not even supposed to be up right now! It's fine you can watch if you're so concerned, she will have this sheet over her so no need to worry about that as well…"

I couldn't help but blush at that thought.

"No he has some more work up to do anyway, you take care of her with the nurses and we will be right here when you get back."

(Ikaku's pov)

I pull the cover over her chest and lift her up into my arms immediately noticing truly how hot she was my concern also grew.

"Nurse follow me!"

We rush off into the bathroom and the nurse quickly turns the shower on.

"Master pardon me but do you intend to keep your clothes on while holding her under the water?"

(uh-shit…I didn't really think about this…)

"Yes…You can stay as witness if you like."

I turn away so she doesn't notice I have blushed and step into the shower engulfing both of us with cool water, I look down as she begins to shiver curling up closer to me I take notice of the thin white sheet as it begins to reveal more I instantly look up blushing.

"Uh um…nurse could you go get some clothes for her."

"Oh of course Master ill be right back!"

(She's shivering pretty badly, I'm sure she's very uncomfortable right now.)

I instinctively look down at her face and am struck with a string being tugged at my heart as I see tears rushing down her face.

(She's obviously in a lot of torment right now.)

I sit down still holding her but decide to hold her just a bit closer to comfort her. I wrap my arms around her as she shivers.

"Master, I'm setting the clothes next to the door, they are calling for me and need me back!"

I clear my throat.

"That's fine thank you."

(She looks thin and fragile yet she's endured so much all for what...innocence such as this should be preserved not taken out.)

"C-cold…I'm cold…"

Startled she was awake I lean back and look at her face.

"I'm sorry just a bit longer your fever is so high-"

Once looking into her eyes I notice something strange. The pigment of her eyes seemed faded and she didn't look fully conscious. Her breathing was heavy and I could feel heat radiating off her.

(Something's not right, maybe I-)

"Please…"

I feel her tiny hand clutch my shirt.

I grit my teeth and nod.

(We have been in here for a while maybe it should be time to go back.)

Just as I turn the shower off and walk out the door opens and in walks two Dr's.

"Good how she's doing?"

I shake my head.

"She spoke for a second but I don't think it helped any."

The Dr looks to be deep in thought.

"The substance didn't look like anything I have ever seen before, but I sent the sample with Kyoto to a friend of mine. Hopefully, we can get some answers that way."

I feel her clutch my shirt tighter and I look down, her cheeks flushed and her expression of pain gave me an uneasy feeling.

(A new drug, something that can take senses away but also cause this type of reaction. It makes no sense how something can do this. And if this is new then there would be no cure.)

"Dr look at her she looks very uncomfortable."

He walks over to me and nods.

"Indeed it doesn't look like anything we have given or done to her has helped, for now, we should just get her dressed and take turns watching her till we hear from my friend."

They lead me back to the room where the nurses dress her and I take my leave to get dressed myself.
