Chapter 4 - April 17 year 561 H.E M1

Greetings Dear Captain this is my report so far from what I've found amongst the staff. There are many problems that need to be solved, the main ones being corruption, drunkenness, debt and gambling. Almost every member of staff has something that can be taken advantage of. If we're going to keep any of them, we're going to have to do a lot of work to clear their backgrounds and make them loyal to the crown. The approximate cost of which is somewhere in the hundreds if not thousands of gold. The only person currently truly loyal to the Crown Prince would be the head Butler whose name is Adam. According to my research he has been serving the crown since before the current king's time. He was taken in as a young boy off the streets by King Rogers' father. Since then, he has served both King Rogers father and King Roger himself loyally his whole life. No known wife, no known children. He does however have a single dependant in his younger sister who was injured in an accident 10 years ago, leaving her paralyzed from the waist down and unable to walk. She currently works in the royal library as one of the cleaning staff.

As for the rest of the staff there are 14 maids, 5 butlers, four gardeners and three cooks who are all in charge of the prince. The greatest causes for concern are the three cooks and five butlers. The 14 maids only look after the prince's room and clothes. The five butlers however have direct access to the prince's body and obviously the cooks cook the food. I shall start with the three cooks.

First is Randy he is the head chef in charge of all of the prince's food and desserts. From my initial reports I have discovered that he has a severe drinking problem as well as an extremely bad temper when drunk. The odds of making a mistake with Prince's food are slim as he takes great pride in serving the king and the Prince. However his private life is a mess, his drinking originally started after his wife passed away leaving him with three young children to look after, and no money. He seems to have retreated into drink rather than deal with his grief. The drinking so far has not left him in debt, but his children are unfortunately being neglected to a serious degree. The three children ages 7, 10 and 12 are left home alone most of the day with no one to look after them, as he needs to work in the palace. The eldest boy named Mike looks after the younger two while running around town doing odd jobs. My recommendation is that he be given grief counseling and all of his liquor be removed from the premises, as well have all of them moved into the palace where they could be monitored properly.

The second cook is named Todd. He is a hardworking young man only 20 years old having just finished military training. From what I have found out he spent his military career in the civil division working as a cook. He does his job well and I have yet to find anything out about his personal life at all. Further Investigation is required.

The last cook is a female named Mary, and she is the greatest cause for concern. Mary has an open drug problem that is no secret to any member of the staff, as well as a huge amount of debt from her late father. I have yet to find out the cause of the debt, I simply know that it is extraordinarily large. Her drug abuse problem is mainly opioids leaving her unfit for work for hours at a time. She is both ideally placed and extremely easy to blackmail. She should be removed from her position immediately.

Of the five butlers I have yet to truly meet any of them, so everything further is hearsay. The eldest is named Michael and from what I have discovered he has a huge gambling addiction leaving him in debt to most of the staff. Which for the record is the only reason I have found out about it. I have been warned multiple times to never loan money to Michael as he will never repay me. This great amount of debt leaves him easily manipulated and he should be further watched to make sure he doesn't do anything stupid.

The other four are named Grant, Marvin, Jake, and Mark. I have yet to find anything out about any of their private lives, however their work ethic so far has been excellent. I've found no cause for concern as of yet.

Further investigation into most this stuff is warranted however I have yet to find any opportunity to do so. If there are any questions you would like to ask me, I will be happy to answer them over a private lunch.

With all loving care

Melissa
