Veydrik shifted uncomfortably in his chair. "The boy speaks sense, but he's still just one man. Even with a dragon, he can't be everywhere at once."

"Which is why I'm not planning to be everywhere at once," Aragon replied with the patience of someone explaining tactics to a child.

"I'm planning to be exactly where it matters most, exactly when it matters most. Strike the head, and the body dies."

Simona studied him for a long moment, her grey eyes unreadable.

"You sound very much like your grandfather when he was your age. That's not entirely a compliment—his boldness served him well in his youth, but it also led him to take unnecessary risks in his later years."

She looked at Freja, who was looking down; she could tell what her sister was thinking.
