Chapter 9 - H

"What exactly are we looking for?" Freia finally asked after she had cleared the pathway for her "Young Master Jun".

"Shut up and just keep clearing the path," Jun ordered and he peered left and then right again, squinting his eyes for something.

Freia had thought the Black Forest would be filled with venomous plants and scary creatures but so far, other than plants and layers of plants, Freia had not seen or sensed anything dangerous. Either that or something more dangerous was likely keeping them away, Freia kept that thought at the back of her head and continued to cut away the plants with the rusty sword that Jun had "bestowed" upon her. What a stinge, Freia thought sulkily.

"We should be reaching the gateway soon...," Jun murmured when Freia's blunt sword struck something hard and she nearly tripped over something or someone.

It was a dark stone statue that....moved? Freia examined it and wondered if it was battery operated for a moment but then again, this place was not like her world so it jolly well could be another mystical beast.

"Step in," the gargoyle gave a guttural sound; bared it's teeth and rolled back to reveal a pathway. Jun kicked Freia in her shins and nudged her to move. Freia shot him a look and Jun walked towards a tiny hut. When they stepped in, Freia noticed that Jun shifted a painting on the wall and the secret door to the underground passage opened soundlessly. Jun nudged her again and she sighed before walking in the dark.

Well, it wasn't entirely dark. Freia could see very dim light coming from the end and her eyesight or perception wasn't that of a usual human. Once again, she did not go through rigorous and brutal trainings in the 21st century for nothing.

"Where are we heading to?" Freia asked and noticed that Jun had disappeared and she was left all alone in an underground tunnel..

The tunnel stretched out head with many rooms.

"Jun?" she uttered and she felt an uncomfortable feeling that she was being watched or hunted.

Her instincts for danger told her that she was in a code red zone.

True enough, a burst of fireball was hurled in her direction and she barely dodged it with her chubby physique. Chubby legs be damned, she thought but decided to press on.

Whatever that was hunting her was highly dangerous. She ran ahead as fast as she could.

She could sense the predator watching her every move.

"Jun!" she whispered harshly as she cut through a dark hall that stretched endlessly as far as her eyes could tell.

Another dart was shot at her and she dodged it just as her legs tripped over the carpet and she fell. Her nose hit the ground and she grazed her knees.

"Enough, alright, whatever it is, whatever you are, I concede defeat. I'm here, I'm here," she raised both her palms up to surrender.

She heard a howl followed by a rush of air and the being appeared silently before her. Her eyes were closed as her heart thumped wildly against her chest. The beaat sniffed her. Her eyes opened and she froze.

"Khai?"
