Chapter 21 - T

Freia's heart froze. The darkness consumed her. It was so quiet that she could hear her heart beating loudly against her ribcage. There was the damp smell of mud and water intermingled with dense forestation. Suddenly she felt a tug at her waist and she realised that she was that close to stepping off the edge. Khai's breath fell onto the top of her head and she could hear the rhythmic beating of his heart.

"There's a hidden chamber up ahead," Khai mentioned and Freia glanced up. Even with her level of expertise, It took a while for her to adjust. Khai's adjustment to the darkness was phenomenal.

"If only there's a dream weaver, it could conjure a flame and lead us towards the chamber," Khai murmured and Freia's brow quirked. Isn't her mystical beast a dream weaver?

Freia woke her beast in her thoughts. She nudged several times before Fluffball finally woke up.

"I guess...this helps?" Freia uttered and her dream weaver ignited a flame. Realising the proximity between the two of them, Freia adjusted herself and pulled back. She thought she noticed a shadow of a smile on Khai's lips. However, she rubbed her eyes and it was gone.

Khai coughed weakly, "Come on, let's head over."

Khai started walking in the direction of the stone chamber ahead and Freia followed closely behind. How did they even got themselves to this?

"You're exceptionally good at being a stupid vapid little fool, you know that?" Ren uttered and pulled Rola's face towards his. Her eyes darted anxiously for help but none came. Her entire body was paralysed from Her poison. The poison that was supposed to be used against this newcomer - Ren. She had immediately deemed him as one of those losers from the loser group. She was glad that she had gotten rid of Freia and weak boy by pushing them down the cave the moment she could. She thought she could get rid of this dude too but she had miscalculated her plans. She hadn't expected Ren to be a manipulative pain in the ass. His face contorted to a smirk that drove shivers down her spine. She thought she had heard a group of male boarding students - those that she usually avoided like a plague. Ren eyed the group and then her in a knowing manner, almost as though he could read her mean and unkind thoughts. No, surely he couldn't, yes? Rola's eyes widened. He wouldn't....

Ren's smirk deepened, "I think, girls like you, Rola - truly deserved a lesson. You were prepared to leave me here for good." Rola tried to utter in protest but her voice was gone and she struggled but it was a futile attempt. The group of male boarding jocks had seen her and they surrounded her almost as quickly as if they had discovered a new found toy. "Well, well, well... What do we have here?" Rola recognised Jake - the leader of the group. Someone she loathed and she would hardly even fathom a second look in his direction. The group of boys surrounded her in a gleeful manner - their eyes lingered on her loosened top.

Rola glared madly at Ren who was above the trees now, and he waved goodbye before leaving her to a group of wolves. Rola's eyes widened in anger before they slipped into a look of fear then dispair.

Freia glanced sideway at the face beside hers. Khai was a picture of serenity and calm. His ivory skin glowed against the warm light and Freia could not help but concede that he was one good looking youth. She tapped the side of her head the moment she harboured such thoughts. Khai gave her a quizzical look, "Freia? Careful!"

Freia glanced at him just as he tugged her closer towards him and they both landed on the ground just as fiery darts were fired in their direction. Freia got up almost immediately and she helped Khai up. Khai glanced at her hands before studying the entire stone chamber. It was a wide chamber - in fact it felt almost like a hall. Khai observed the pillars and Freia took a step cautiously ahead. The entire place was filled with triggers and booby traps. What is this place? Her mind wandered. Khai stared thoughtfully at the engraving and carvings on the pillar. His eyes narrowed slightly before returning to his usual state. He cowered a little behind Freia, "This place gives me the creeps!"

Not. But, he really had to get into Freia's good books which explained his timely pretense.
