"So, we hiked through a swap, fought off an anaconda and got turned down by Isabel. For some reason I feel like this isn't going well" Marie said as she and Beth got back into the car.
"Maybe she will come around. I don't understand why she doesn't want to help at all. She seems so angry." Beth said.
"Are you still willing to help?" Marie asked Beth nervously as she start up the car and began driving.
"I got you. We will figure it out. First we need to find out where Sybil is and what our strategy will be." Beth said.
"Agreed. I will take you home and then catch up with you tomorrow. There are a few things I need to take care of."
"No worries. I'll be at home baking."
Marie dropped Beth off at her home and they said their good bye's. She continued to her own home which she hadn't seen in days.
When Marie arrived to her house, she felt relief.
She jumped out of the car and hurriedly opened the door. She needed to wash off the stench of the swamp.
The house was dark, so she immediately Reached for the lights. Her home seemed so empty after spending time with Sargon.
She wanted to be in his room, in his bed right at the very moment. It's so funny how one moment you could be totally content with being alone and then you meet someone who changes your whole perspective. She thought.
She grabbed fresh clothes and scurried into the bathroom. Removing her clothes, she threw them in the corner. She wasn't sure if she would wash them or throw them away. They were so disgusting.
After she showered, she picked up her phone and sat on her bed. she dialed Sargon's number. Before it could ring, she changed her mind and hung up the phone.
She needed to stay focused. So much was happening and filling her mind with thoughts of Sargon would not help her in anyways right now. She also didn't want him to worry about what happened today. He seemed very protective.
Marie put her phone on her nightstand and walked over to her closet. She searched above the closet and pulled down a small chest.
Trying to steady herself, she fell backwards on to her bed, clutching the chest closely to her stomach.
Marie lay on her bed with her eyes closed for a moment to slow down her heartbeat from the anxiety of falling.
She sat up and opened the box, reaching inside of it. She reached inside and pulled out a small black pouch.
The green stone she pulled out was surrounded by gold and it illuminated as she moved it through her fingers. It was her mother's talisman.
The talisman was found and given to her when she was told her mother was gone.
She never knew how to feel about everything that happened.
Her mother pushed her so much, but she simply didn't want what her mother wanted.
Marie didn't want to control the world. She didn't want to make anyone fear her. That's what Sybil did, and she couldn't stand her for it.
Hurting innocent people wasn't fair. That's not how witches are supposed to live.
When Marie's mother realized she wasn't going to fulfill her destiny, she practically turned on her. Everyone else felt like Marie had let them down.
Right before Marie's mother was killed, she banished her from the coven.
Marie was heartbroken. She was even more heartbroken when she found out it was witches who killed her. It made no sense. Her mother didn't have enemies that could easily harm her. She was more powerful that them.
Reaching into the chest again, Marie pulled out her mother's old spell book. She never opened it or read it after her mother was gone. She didn't want to feel anything.
She sifted through the pages recognizing old spells her mother taught her. The memories flooded in as tears welled in her eyes.
Marie lifted her hand and played with the air creating blue lights swirling around her hand. She smiled. It was the first thing her mother taught her to do when she was a child.
Marie flipped through the rest of the book until she stopped at the end of the book and noticed it was thicker than the front. There was a bent area in the corner and the page was raised, like something was stuck behind it.
She carefully peeled back the material, revealing a folded paper.
Marie slowly opened the paper, revealing a letter. She immediately began reading it.
My dearest Marie,
If this letter finds you, I am no longer with you and I am so sorry. I have always wanted the best for
you. Being the mother of the chosen it not the easiest task, but you must understand that I did my
best to protect you and guide you.
If I was hard on you, it's because the world is not a kind place, and you must face it alone.
You have become a beautiful, kind-hearted woman. I fear many will take advantage of your
kindness. I had always hoped that you would have the strength to fulfill what you were placed on
this earth to do.
There are many who do not want you to be who you were born to be. Their intentions will eventually
be revealed.
Your power and strength sit beneath your will to lead. You need to simply follow through. I have
taught you all you need to know.
This world will never be one we can exist in freely if you fear who you are.
There cannot be two worlds, only one. You must remember that.
If you decide to be who you are destined to be, my talisman and the reverse side of this letter will
guide you. You will awaken the powers others can only dream of and the world will be at your
fingertips.
I am so honored to have been your mother.
I love you with all my heart.
