Seeing that story, Shard finally understood a little:
"Your current mother is your stepmother?"
He returned the book to the little girl, who pursed her lips and nodded, but did not explain further. Shard could naturally guess the general story, but as an outsider, he couldn't say much:
"Thank you for answering my question. So, would you like to see me perform a magic trick?"
Shard said as he stood up. While the little girl looked up at him curiously, he reached into his pocket and quickly pulled out a red apple:
"Look, I made an apple appear!"
"I knew it! The apple was in your pocket all along!"
The girl said with a laugh.
"You guessed right, so it's yours now."
Shard then handed the apple to the girl on the sickbed, and she softly thanked him as she took it. Just as Shard was about to leave, she asked:
"Sir, do you think the prince in the story who can change the girl's life really exists?"
