Shard thought he should have no problem, because after exchanging a few words with Priest Augustus who had just left the room, he entered the private study attached to the reception room.
The doctor had rearranged the furniture in advance. The two professors sat on one side of the table, while those being questioned sat on the other side. As for the secretary responsible for recording the conversation, there was a separate small table.
Although they had been working continuously for two hours, the professors did not appear very tired. After Shard entered the room, he did not speak immediately. Instead, he had the servants who followed him bring in a new teapot and pour red tea for everyone, and then he sat down in the chair.
In front of the professors were papers filled with documents. Although the distance was very close, Shard could not see any of the text clearly. The table on his side had nothing but a teacup, so Shard clasped his hands together and placed them on the table:
