"Gold coins?"
Shard raised an eyebrow.
"A ferryman in a black robe? Sounds like the Grim Reaper who ferries the Styx in stories."
The bard whispered the tale that had spread in this era.
"We probably don't have any money, do we?"
The old knight expressed his worries.
"Having made the choice, there's no turning back. I think there will always be a way."
The witch said, and the story continued.
"The impoverished travelers didn't have enough gold coins to pay the fare across the river, and retreating would mean the failure of their journey, a result they could not accept. Hence, the kind-hearted boatman suggested using the soul of one of them to pay for the fare for the other four. He wondered if they could accept this."
The deity asked the five, but just like before, Shard and the witch were unwilling to sacrifice a companion here:
"Of course not, we set out on this journey together."
