Chapter 9 - I'm Sheng Hanye's Ghost

Natalie Jennings smiled, "I'm a ghost—a female ghost who specializes in sucking Hayden Sheffield's blood!"

Strangely, when she said this, Silas Spencer calmed down.

She's a person, a living, breathing person!

Eva is already dead; how could she possibly appear here, marry Hayden Sheffield, and become Mrs. Sheffield!

There are loads of people in the world who look alike!

He was just overreacting.

In that instant, Silas also understood why Hayden Sheffield suddenly had a flash marriage.

That obsession still lingered in Hayden Sheffield's heart, never dissipated, haunting him for life, tormenting him as his inner demon.

"Dr. Spencer," Natalie Jennings was instead a little curious, "This is our first time meeting, isn't it? Why do you have that look on your face?"

Silas coughed: "Oh, it's nothing, just had a little seizure, that's all."

Natalie Jennings: "..."

"Give me your hand," Silas said, "Let me set it. It's going to hurt a little, try to bear it."

She didn't move, "What if I don't get it fixed?"

"If you don't get it fixed, Hayden Sheffield will twist my head off!"

Natalie Jennings gave a charming smile: "That's exactly his style."

She never intended self-harm. She was clear-headed—she had to stay healthy, only then could she wait for an opportunity…for revenge!

If Hayden Sheffield dared to keep her here, she dared to scheme against him!

The moment her bone was set, Natalie Jennings clenched her teeth, not making a single sound of pain.

Even Silas felt a pang of sympathy. This Mrs. Sheffield's stubbornness was just like Eva's!

"There, all done," he said, "For the next half-month, be careful, don't lift anything heavy."

Natalie Jennings didn't answer, her gaze falling beyond him.

Hayden Sheffield appeared at the door.

Silas instantly became a third wheel, bright as a lamp.

Natalie Jennings picked up the fallen knife and tossed it into the trash: "Too bad, didn't get a chance to use it."

"You two and your little couple games…kinda unique, hehehe," Silas said. "Better to stick to the normal route, don't go overboard."

Hayden Sheffield pressed his lips together and turned to leave.

Silas chased after him.

"No wonder you were keeping her so well hidden." Silas's expression was grave. "Are you sure you want to spend your whole life married to Natalie Jennings?"

"Why not?"

"Hayden Sheffield, it's been so many years. You should let go."

Hayden stepped into his study, "I know what I'm doing."

Silas sighed, "What a damned fate…"

Now that there's Natalie Jennings, what about Violet Jones overseas?

Inside the study.

Hayden Sheffield dialed William's number, "Send me everything—every detail there is on the Jennings family, right now!"

"Yes, President Sheffield."

Five minutes later, Hayden Sheffield received an email from William.

He opened it quickly.

The blue light from the screen illuminated Hayden Sheffield's face as he stared at the files, scrolling down with his mouse…

After reading, he leaned back in his chair, head tilted up, eyes closed.

The Jennings family's bankruptcy was honestly a trivial matter—so insignificant he'd forgotten all about it by the following day.

Hayden Sheffield had, in fact, signed the papers and agreed to it.

But…

All of this was Master Sheffield's doing!

When faced with his grandfather's instructions, unless it severely violated his own bottom line, Hayden Sheffield would always acquiesce—turning a blind eye and letting it slide.

Now, the truth was out.

What could Hayden Sheffield do?

Tell Natalie Jennings it had nothing to do with him, that it was his grandfather's idea?

Master Sheffield did it all for the Sterling Group and the Sheffield family's future; Hayden Sheffield is a member of the Sheffield family and Master Sheffield is his grandfather—he couldn't completely wash his hands of it!

This burden, Hayden Sheffield could only carry!

If Natalie Jennings needed someone to hate, let her hate him.

Hayden Sheffield pulled open a drawer and took out the photo frame inside.

The girl in the photo had lively eyes, delicate features, but her expression was cold and distant. Even facing the camera, she didn't smile.

Because she was with the Featherwing Alliance.

A bodyguard trained by the Featherwing Alliance—impeccable skills, any girlish softness long worn away, knowing only how to carry out orders!

"Eva, you never said you hated me, but I know you did. That's why you chose to leave forever, to get back at me." Hayden Sheffield muttered softly to himself, "And now, even someone who looks so much like you…hates me too."

He pressed the photo frame to his heart.

Outside the window, the moonlight was cold as frost.

Natalie Jennings lay in the master bedroom, sleepless all night.

She was powerless, but she wouldn't give up!

When dawn broke, Natalie Jennings put on delicate, light makeup, and selected a dress from a row of luxury outfits.

Natalie Jennings remembered—ever since she'd moved into Sterling Estate, there had already been women's clothes in the dressing room.

All brand new, tags still attached.

Why would Hayden Sheffield have so many women's clothes in his bedroom?

Did he bring all his flings home for the night and prepare clothes for them to wear the next morning?

But then, the dresses fit her perfectly, like they were custom made for her.

Natalie Jennings had never even had her measurements taken.

"Madam," the butler called from outside, "breakfast is ready."

"Coming."

She went downstairs and entered the dining room.

Hayden Sheffield sat at the head of the table, dressed in a white shirt, collar slightly open, revealing his prominent Adam's apple, his profile sharp as if sculpted.

Hearing footsteps, he glanced at her.

Noticing her made-up face, he seemed a bit surprised, raising his brow slightly.

"Do I look good?" Natalie Jennings took a seat beside him, deliberately asking.

Hayden Sheffield answered, unexpectedly, "Beautiful."

"Then you'd better be careful. The prettier a woman is, the better she is at lying."

Hayden Sheffield countered, "What are you trying to lie your way into?"

Natalie Jennings's voice rang out, clear and resolute, "Steal your heart…and then your life!"

The maid, who was just bringing out the food, was so startled by her words that her hand shook—the soup spilled everywhere.

Even the butler broke into a cold sweat.

Yet Hayden Sheffield acted as if nothing happened, letting out a low chuckle. "I hope you do."

Natalie Jennings secretly clenched her palm. "I will."

"Want me to give you a chance?" Hayden Sheffield asked. "At night you're the only one who gets close to me—afraid that's not enough time for you."

"What do you mean?"

"You've got some skills—why not be my bodyguard during the day?"

Natalie Jennings mocked, "You're a grown man—don't you worry about being made fun of for letting me protect you?"

Besides, she noticed Hayden Sheffield's skills weren't bad either.

Though she'd never fought him head-on, his strength, reactions, speed—they were all definitely the result of real training.

"Don't like that?" Hayden Sheffield took a sip of coffee, "Then be my secretary."

Natalie Jennings's heart skipped a beat.

If she became his secretary, she'd have access to the Sterling Group—maybe even get her hands on company secrets!

She was about to hide her excitement, but when she looked up, she met Hayden Sheffield's knowing, half-mocking eyes.

He'd seen through her again!

Natalie Jennings didn't bother to hide it. "You keep your word? Hayden Sheffield, you're really too full of yourself—daring to let me work as your executive secretary."

"My word is my bond," he replied. "This way, day and night, you'll be by my side twenty-four-seven."

"Fine! Deal!"
