The day before yesterday, Missy had found a nest of bird eggs. The adult birds looked a bit like owls and a bit like bats, with a frightening appearance. They circled around Missy's tent for a long time, screeching loudly.
Yesterday, Missy said she found a field mouse hole and caught a white, chubby thing from it. Whether it was a field mouse or not...only heaven knows! Missy happily cooked it – although the two young ones were a bit scared, they found it quite delicious during the meal.
Today, Master returned. As soon as Sir Bertram entered the backyard, he saw Verna with her butt up in the air, her head buried in a thick cluster of tall grass. Hearing her brother call her, she replied, "I'm here!" When she came out, her face was covered in dust, and her head had some thingamabobs like sagebrush hanging from it. In her hands, she tightly gripped two shiny black centipedes!
