As a guy who grew up on a steady diet of karate flicks, especially Jean-Claude Van Damme movies, the scene in front of me was absolutely priceless. My getup was practically begging for what I was about to do. And what's on the menu? A Flying Kick, obviously!
Even if it didn't look as cool as the famous actor's iconic kick, I wasn't going to back down. I took a few steps, picked up speed, and launched myself into the air at the three guys rushing toward me. Right foot forward, left foot tucked toward my body; aside from executing the strike with the sole of my foot instead of the blade of my right foot like you're supposed to, I was golden.
I just forgot one tiny detail: the fact that the second I landed, I'd be dropping right into the middle of a meat grinder. You're a guy who wore out VHS tapes watching martial arts movies, Max. Use your head—what would the badass lead do in this situation? The answer hit me faster than a late-night takeout delivery. Roundhouse Kick.
