After just one night of sleep, he told his family about the rumor from the county government.
Soon, the family called in those who had initially registered their land under An Que's name.
These families were already somewhat afraid of An Que, fearing he would raise their grain taxes again, and felt very uneasy when called over.
However, upon hearing An Que say that he wanted to return the land to them and that their land could no longer be registered under his name, these people collectively, albeit secretly, sighed in relief.
They had actually long wanted to take back this land but were constrained by the fact that An Que was a scholar, so they couldn't just speak directly to him about it.
Now that An Que had brought it up himself, how could they oppose it?
Yet, An Que was unaware of their thoughts and still looked down on everyone with an air of superiority, talking eloquently.
