Putting oneself in others' shoes:
From a Player's perspective, losing their memories wasn't such a terrible fate. In most worlds, ordinary people formed the vast majority, their short lives of a few decades filled with hardship and fatigue, offering little happiness. The game company provided them with new bodies, allowing them to live free from worry, disease, and exploitation for hundreds, even thousands of years. Even if they eventually lost their memories, it was still a net gain. For their own self-interest, Players wouldn't care much about dignity or freedom.
