Chapter 5 - A KNOCK ON WOOD

"Who's Sasha?" Eder looked at his young wife and asked, the sound of flapping wings still heard nearby. Latini gave him a puzzled look and swiftly responded.

"How would I know who..." Then her eyes widened as she realized and hit Eder's arm.

"You idiot, that's your daughter!"

Both looking horrified at their blunder, they both rose to their feets and swiftly walked to their house. Little Huan, in his bird form, gave them a disdained look and flew towards the river. He gave off a screech then flew away.

'Hiss.'

In a little while, a golden snake came gliding with an anxious look on its eyes. Behind it, a black wolf jumped and howled. A screech can be heard from a distance and the wolf followed the sound. The golden snake shifted its body on the opposite direction to slither when it heard the door swing open and out came Eder and Latini with what looks like a bundle of clothes in their arms.

The snake gave them an inquiring look. Eder looked stupid as he tried to coo in the bundle of clothes while Latini stared at him in annoyance.

"Stop doing that." She lectured before she gazed at the golden snake.

"Tala, call your brothers. Sasha is just here." She said and showed a baby with a goofy smile in the bundle of clothes that they've been carrying.

The snake stopped and glided towards the bushes before the long-legged Tala emerged wrapped in a towel again. She walked towards the baby in their father's arms and making sure nothing is wrong, she turned to call on her brothers but Eder stopped her.

The young father smiled and gestured an okay signal to her before he placed his two hands to cover the babies ears and opened his mouth for a shout. No words nor a loud shout was heard but a deafening roar travelled through the air, silencing the busy critters nearby.

'Roar!'

Latini and Tala had their ears both covered and glared at Eder to express their annoyance. The young father smiled sheepishly. As he sensed to hear a bout of complaint from his wife and his daughter, he snapped a tree branch and waved it in front of their baby daughter.

"Sasha! Daddy's here! Oh, my adorable Sasha! Look at what Daddy's got! Oh my, would you look at this branch, it feels firm, right?" The mother and daughter duo looked at him in disgust as he kept waving the branch.

Nearby, the black wolf jumped down in the bushes and the hawk dove next to them.

'Hik'

They heard their youngest family make a sound and as Zari and Huan lifted their heads to look, they saw a tiny hand snatching the branch from their father's hand and swiftly smashing it on his stunned face.

We now see the complete family of six fell into silence as they digest what just happened. With Eder blinking away his shock while holding onto the side of his face that got smashed by the youngest Sasha, the usually serious little Huan snapped out of his daze and laughed out loud.

"We have a new boss in the house!" He exclaimed and continued laughing until their whole family joined him in his glee. Even Eder, the victim, couldn't help but chuckle at this sudden turn of events. He shook his head in defeat.

"Oh, you enjoy smashing Daddy's face my daughter?" He jokingly asked.

"Yeah." Came the small reply calling to them again into attention. The young father look at his other children and his wife before he asked in disbelief.

"Did you... Did you hear that? She replied to me! She's already talking! My daughter is a genius, hahahaha!" He took baby Sasha from her mother's embrace and lifted her up in pure bliss. He stared at her little face in adorable and wanted to plant a kiss on her little face.

"Yeah," Sasha cooed again and and sneezed forcefully on his face before she started to cry.

Poor Eder, with his face covered in baby snot and drool, Sasha was taken from his arms as his wife shook her head and gave him a disappointed look.

"She will catch a cold, you silly." She said as their other children followed her to their house. Sasha yawned in her mother's arms and tried to keep herself awake by opening her tiny eyes but being lulled to sleep, she dozed off.

Eder walked to their tiny gate to close it before he followed his family inside. As he turned to walk away, we get to view the completed house. We see a concrete bungalow with large backyard. Tall trees stood behind the house resembling the previous forest. In front, there are flowering plants lining the wall while towards the entryway, spices of various forms were carefully placed in their pots.

The head of the family, Eder, knocked on a wooden board next to the main door as he closed it. Immediately after, the low gate and walls buzzed and generated what seemed to look like lightning arising from its base and rose to meet each other high above the residence and cover it like a dome. But we see none of that when we look from the outside. In plain view, we see the same house without any movements on it.

Inside, the young mother prepared breakfast for her big family. They ate heartily like any other families then went on to do their own stuff for the rest of the day.

Eder, drove towards town for work, wearing his stripped polo shirt and brown slacks. He drives an owner-type jeep than can seat six people, a perfect choice for his family. As he approached the town, we see a sign at the entrance: Welcome to SALVACION! These words are hand-painted on a big slab of wood and is erected firmly by the side of the road.

He parked his car next to a two-story building, grabbed his back pack and walked inside. Wearing his ID and thick-framed glasses, he closed the door and we see the sign hanged on the door: teacher's office.

Eder walked with familiarity towards one of the tables and after wiping it clean, he sat down to read, a pen on his other hand, ready to write down.

Further outside, we see the school with about 10 or more rooms, a guard tucking his uniform as he opened the gates and a middle-aged burly man rushing to put used sacks on wooden frames with labels for trash. Slowly, a student on his bike ride towards the gate and as the guard checks his bag and ID, he fixes his uniform with an embroidered label that read 'Salvacion Central School'. Once cleared with the guard, the student was allowed entry and soon, few more students came in.

Back at home, little Huan took a bath and wore a tiny version of the uniforms we saw earlier. Latini saw him and asked.

"Are you going anywhere little Huan?" She asked carefully. Little Huan gave her a determined look and answered.

"To school." Latini's heart ached when she heard his reply.

"Oh, my son. My pitiful son." She exclaimed as she went over to hug him and cried.

"You can't go school my baby." Little Huan stiffened when he heard his mother spoke again.
