I called Jonas to tell him the news.
"Are you lying to me right now because it's not funny Kodak." Jonas said with a serious tone.
I was surprised when I heard Jonas being serious. For once he was not joking. Plus this is the first time I heard him call me by my full name instead of Kody.
"You know I would never lie to you Jonas." I replied.
The phone was silent for a few minutes before I heard Jonas's reply.
"Stay home. I'm coming to visit you."
With that he hung up on me. I just shrug my shoulders.
As I waited for his arrival, I thought about my life until now.
I was born to a poor family in the slums. My mother left me and my father when I was 7 to marry a wealthy man in the city.
My father grew distant to me and began to drink his sorrows away. He ignored my existence and I had to practically raise myself.
When I turned 18, I joined a local gang. Then, at 19 I left the small gang to join the local mafia. They recruited me as an assassin and I have been doing jobs as one for the past 3 years.
I steadily climbed the ranks until I reached S-class, the highest rank an assassin could have.
Jonas, my best friend, has been at my side since I was 7. Jonas was 3 years older than me and when I was out begging for food in the streets, he saw me.
He had brought me food every day since then. He became my only friend. My best friend. I always kept in contact with him.
When I was 19, I found out that he was the son of the underboss in the mafia I had joined.
Jonas was not involved in the mafia as he wanted to focus on his singing career.
Overall, I lived an okay life. I did not have any regrets. Well, maybe the only regrets is dying a virgin and not asking out Jonas sooner.
Yeah, I just realized I loved him. I'm so stupid.
I felt strong arms wrap around me and I turned my head back to find it was Jonas.
We stayed like that for a few moments before I broke the tense silence.
"So...I'm dying in less than 24 hours."
Jonas's grip around me tightened as he nodded.
"I know."
I felt a lump form in the back of my throat.
"Yeah..." I whispered.
