Waking up to that sound was familiar, and I went into autopilot. I didn't even bother opening my eyes. The baby was in my arms, so all I had to do was adjust so they were on my chest. I knew it wasn't my child, but instinct wouldn't let me neglect them. Who was this?

The sound of an argument is distant, and no one's trying to take care of the baby. Why is it in my arms? Who was letting the poor thing cry like this? The baby is distressed, and just from smell and feel, it needs a diaper change. It's not the most entertaining job in the world, but it's not complicated.
