Chapter 6 - Massacre

Commander Hermann's POV:

'We shouldn't do this. The royal knights have been founded to protect the people and not to harm them. So why did the king order us to kill all those innocent farmers?' commander Hermann couldn't understand the reasoning behind their act.

The thought-process of the king was entirely different though. He suspected the people, who lived on the outskirts of the city, to start a revolution. If they really did plan to begin fighting, it would have terrible consequences not only for them, but for the people inside the walls too.

The whole supply system would start to crumble and struggle. After all the most goods were delivered by the farmers.

So after killing his enemies, he planned to just appoint new farmers, that were loyal to him, to these tasks. They would have to first get instructed first what shouldn't be a problem and then continue with their new work.

"We arrived! What should we do now commander?" the question of one of his subordinates pulled him out of his state of absent-mindedness. He looked over to the little houses standing about a kilometre away from them.

Their habitants would probably never expect an attack at this time. He could already imagine the shocked faces the people would make when they got dragged out of their homes and got killed.

The 50 soldiers standing behind their commander came to a halt. All of them looked at Hermann, full of expectation.

After a brieve moment, he opened his mouth to let the words out, he never wanted to say:"Kill them all!"

It seemed like every subordinate of his had awaited his order and charged at the houses in the distance.

Elena's POV:

Elena had just washed her clothes, as she began to cook. She anticipated Idris to come home soon. Since Aiya was on an important mission, she had no one to help her.

She just sighed at all the work she had to do.

Today she would make her son's favorite meal. It wasn't anything special, just some sheep meat. She didn't understand why it was so good for him, but she was always happy seeing him enjoying his food so much.

Suddenly she heard a scream. It stopped halfway and she began to smell something weird. It was someting she had only ever smelled when killing animals. It was blood.

She put everything aside and turned around to go out. As she opened the door she had her mouth wide open. She saw several dozens of royal knights dragging people out of their homes continously.

Already about 90 farmers had fallen at their hands. The corpses layed on the ground and a few magicians followed the knights, burning the bodys, so that they turned into ashes and were blown away by the increasing strength of the wind.

The other remaining 40 farmers tried to flee as they saw the bloodlust in the eyes of the knights. They knew they had no chance to guard against them and fled.

Even though the knights wore armor, they quickly caught up and slaughtered them too, with only one strike of their weapons.

Elena knew she had no chance against them and didn't even try to do anything. Her house was also approached by a knight. In contrast to the others, his weapon was a special-made longsword. It was already dyed in red from all the blood. His armor too had special features to it and effects were applied to it by runes that were carved inside the armor. He had to be the leader of the group.

As he stopped in front of her, he bowed and apologized:"I'm sorry that we have to go so far as to kill you all. But I can't just refuse the orders. It would truly be a disgrace for me."

His apology sounded earnest and Elena said with a wry smile on her face:"It truly is a shame for me to die, but I understand your reasoning. It would probably end up bad if you refuse to kill me. So please go ahead. I don't want to die yet, but it is what is."

The soldier had his gaze filled with pity. He nodded and swung his sword. The blade cut clean through her neck.
