Chapter 36 - Start of the tournament

A week passed with Idris training. He had now reached the advanced stage of the 2nd layer Martial Beginner Realm. He didn't really raise his stats anywhere else besides his "Sunray Technique".

He decided, he would practice the "Sun-Moon-Cycle Technique" only after winning the tournament as first place. He didn't put any other spot in his eyes.

In the upcoming fights, he should have the upper hand in every one of them. Even the high regarded students of each school were no problem for him to handle. He would just play with them and eventually knock them out. Unfortunately, killing was against the rules. If it wasn't, he would kill them all. He didn't care which gender or which age they were.

The other four schools had arrived while Idris' school was waiting. Some children were older, because they had awakened later. A few were also poor and were granted the chance to go to a prestigious academy. They weren't used to the luxury they were now in.

Idris had seen many students train on the training grounds which were located right behind the house they lived in.

He had wanted to mock them for their weak abilities, but if he did, unknown consequences would occur. That had also been the exact reason why he didn't do it. He didn't want to get separated from his beast spirit source.

Even so, Idris planned on doing some things after the tournament was over. And he would do it secretly, so that no one would suspect him.

On the day of the tournament, Idris slept awfully long and woke up way too late. He put on his new bought clothes and rushed downstairs, only to find his class waiting for him. One of the students was just on his way to wake him up, as Idris overran them. Nothing happened and the class began their way to the stadium the tournament would be held in.

The stadium looked just as the colosseum from ancient Rome. It was made of stone too and looked a bit run-down.

An entrance was up front. It was small compared to the gigantic building. It was also the entry for the schools. Around the stadium, there were six gates, five of them for the participating classes and one for the people who wanted ro watch.

To check the entirety of them were present, the teachers counted them, as they stepped into the room.

It was relatively big and almost looked like a changing room from Idris' previous life. Every student sat down onto a stone bench that reached around the whole room.

Headmaster Herbert stood in the middle and looked around, waiting for the children to be quiet. After they calmed down, he began his speech: "Students, the time has finally come. I hope you're all looking forward to the upcoming matches. But before we walk out, I need to inform you of something. There's going to be a referee. He'll announce the rules of this tournament and after that the pairings. Only then will the fighting begin. Now, let's go."

He walked to a door that was located at the back of the room. After opening it, bright light blinded everyone in the dark chamber. When they got used to the brightness, an imposing sight came into their view.

In the middle of the big place was a large stone platform. Around it was a line drawn, where the classes would rest and watch the battles.

Many seats were placed on the sides in a circle. Compared to its magnitude, only a small number of people were sitting there and waited patiently for the children to come out of the rooms.

As they stepped out, they sat onto a bench like inside the room they were just in.

A man, who stood on the platform, raised his voice after all people were extant: "Dear students and teachers and spectators, I welcome you to this tournament. I'm the referee. To come to the rules, I must say they're quite easy to remember. The only rule is actually that you're not allowed to kill each other.

You can win if you push your opponent off the platform or make them unconscious. That's it. Now please look at the pairings that have been randomly chosen. The first participants can already come here onto the stage."

Something like a display appeared before the referee. It showed dozens of names with numbers besides them.

Idris' name was the on 33rd spot. The opponent he had to battle against was someone named Alice. He shouldn't have any problem against her.

Two children from two other classes went onto the platform. They both looked very weak.

The referee commenced the start. Just as Idris had expected, the students were weak. Both were at the 2nd layer and thus not string enough for him to enter his eyes.

He was bored watching and played with some of his spells, even though only in a very small scale. The matches passed and he grew only more bored. Only after 17 fights was it a little more interesting.

The boy Idris had been warned about, Andie, was now on the stage, facing one of the other students. He was expecting some power from him.

The other child attacked first and wanted to hit Andie with their fist. He was too fast though and casted one of his wind spells.

A great mass of air pressed the other student onto the ground until they passed out.

It was indeed not bad and Idris made a notice in his head to remember the elements he had to counter the wind element of Andie with. It was impressive for a child ro be so strong, but he knew he was much stronger. When the time came, he would play with his opponents and then finish it fastly.

The tournament continued without any issues. Then the 33rd match was announced. The girl Idris had to fight against was for her age little and seemed not to mind his height.

She thought she was strong enough to win against Idris, but couldn't know the power he actually possessed.
