In front of me lay a jagged, yawning chasm. Unlike the surgical, near-perfect circular pits where the other hearts had been nested, this hole was a chaotic mess of shattered bone and torn muscle.
The edges were crude and irregular, clearly the result of brute force rather than precise energy. It was the handiwork of the Berserkers.
The area surrounding the breach was a storm of violence. A few hundred Berserkers, the battered remnants of the force that had survived the angels' treacherous sneak attack, were locked in a frantic struggle.
They fought alongside a handful of allied warriors, their heavy axes and massive blades hacking through a sea of minions that seemed intent on burying them.
"It's my friend, the human Hye!"
