Chapter 12 - Better prepared? (2)

He continued supplying mana for the next 10 minutes Just watching over the engine read out. Somehow the man I went into the engine didn't actually affect it but increased their speed. If he could do this on his ship He could go from one end of the explored galaxy to the other in a few hours.

*Mana Manipulation lvl 6

When the speed increased again the jump felt slightly more significant than the last two. He spent the 2 extra mana he just got from the level to give them that much more distance. But finally stopped supplying mana he didn't want to run himself dry again.

After the ship slowed down his father cleared his throat. "At our current speed we will be at the closest point to those shipping lanes in 3 weeks. That last little boost you did put us over the halfway point."

Royce smiled and nodded. "Good Hope it's far enough. I really need to get something to eat and go to sleep for a day or two. did you have any rations on board before I merged the ships?" He looks back and forth at his mother and father they both nod.

"They should be in relatively the same spot I think." He said while unbuckling himself from this chair again.

It didn't take long He and his father were sitting at the mess station while his mother watched the sensors and the autopilot took them toward their destination.

He was sucking on a mush pouch labeled beef stew It used to be one of his favorites. He was having second thoughts on the choice now. He still ate it, he was very hungry.

Apparently using and making mana requires a lot of calories. After he was done choking down the first pouch he had another. It was lasagna and he didn't like it any better halfway through it he finally felt full. So he asked his father if he would help him to the bunk space. his father lifted him up and carried him but before he took 10 steps Royce was asleep.

When Royce finally woke It was quiet He was curious how much MP he regained from sleeping He was disappointed. He was definitely going to have to start leveling up Meditation and Mana Manipulation. He wondered if he could multitask with spells. "No time like the present to find out." He sat up in the bunk with the bottoms of his feet together his small size made this easy he started Meditation. after meditating for 2 hours he got some Mana back but not much. He would have to keep at this for a couple of days if he wanted to fill his Mana all the way and he was hungry again.

He already noticed his father had placed him on one of the lower bunks. The layout of the ship he designed in his imagination was pretty practical. The two ships each initially had bunks for two people and a small four person galley set up. A single hookup for cleaning out a suits waist lines And maybe enough storage for a large battle suit and some gear.

So for the new ship on the interior he kept the layout of the fancier vessel and added in the navigation seat And added a passenger seat to the four that were already available so not to waste materials. The bunk stayed in the same position but became a six pack three on top of each other side by side using the design of the nicer vessel for the beddings soft rollers that allowed one to sleep comfortably and easily enter and exit the bunk. Next to it was the mess, only four seats at a standard table But both ships had full stock provisions and everything was contained in that area. On the other side of the bunks, a small locker room taking up about the same space as the six bunks holding a couple extra travel suits and a waistline hookup. On the opposite side of the main cabin is a closet with emergency gear, then three passenger seats against the wall with storage above, below and in between. Then two seats in front of them facing the bridge area to create an aisle between the bridge and the cargo door. The cargo area had more than doubled in size. When he combined the hauls he actually ended up with two and a half times the space. It was the thought of all this that reminded him there were items that he technically couldn't identify that were part of the cargo of the fancier ship. He had only been trying to find the locator beacon when he initially used his power to search the ship.

He crawled off the bunk. He noticed both of his parents were sleeping as well and wanted to check the course and controls but even in this suit didn't have enough height to easily climb into the chairs. He didn't want to spend the mana but he would have to go through the ship and find materials necessary to modify his suit to make himself able to perform adult tasks.

"When I formed the locker room the travel suits weren't exactly the same. I'll start there." He went over to the mess and using the added strength from his suit lifted the chair over his head and carried it in front of the small locker room. this chair was smaller and a little easier to climb He made his way on top and undid the latch for the door and slid it opened hopping down was a lot easier. But looking at the latch for the locker door he knew he'd need to position the chair so he could reach it and still open the door. After going through the motions and finally getting the door open. He knew he was more than halfway through his task. a military style travel suit with built-in armor, weapons, strength enhancement, and atmospheric flight capability. Along with all the other bells and whistles. He could probably do it with just this but he didn't want to have to take away from it to do what he wanted to do.

So it was off to the cargo bay picking up his chair He moved along after placing the travel suit into his storage. He could try to pillage emergency supplies But you really do not know when a ship could crash and you might need them. Waving off the thought he went straight to the cargo bay. Once inside there was enough space for two of the battle suits he had but this space was empty right now The extra space available was behind a roll down door used to keep items from possibly being scattered about. It had already been in the other ship and it's contents were too close together to identify while combining the ships. Using every bit of extra strength his suit could lend him, he hoisted the rolling door up as hard as he could. It made it up about 2/3 of the way and stopped but didn't come back down. It was enough. Inside were all the parts necessary to make the travel suit he had put in his storage into a battle suit much lighter and a slightly smaller version than the one he had. The rest of the space consisted of a small maintenance table with the necessary tools and some extra parts in those spare parts were exactly what he'd need. He wasn't sure how this was going to work so he pulled the suit out of storage place the parts he wanted on top of it and laid down next to it and put a hand over the parts and suit.

As he activated hardware manipulation and concentrated on the design he had in mind. He felt and watched the suit go ethereal, It held the form as if someone occupied it and overlapped his, he felt his own suit evaporate and he was left floating a couple inches above the floor. Things began to take shape around him.

Thanks to the upgraded computer system he had in his initial suit and the other functions he had been lucky enough not to need. This new armor would be more then useful for his current situation. From the outside the travel suit had barely changed. But once you were beneath the initial armaments it was completely different, utilizing both the comfort positioning setups from the two suits his small body was suspended within the torso. with all the extra body sensors modified and positioned in a crown around his head. He relaxed closed his eyes and took control of his suit. He sat up and the feeling was a little bit more intense than he initially expected on his body within the suit. 'This young form won't be able to handle any severe inertia.' he thought.

Still needing to test it out more. H decided to check on the ships course. Back through the cargo door both of his parents were still asleep. He went to the front of the main cabin and checked the controls.

The ship was on course and his father had set up alarms if any of the sensors were triggered. The autopilot was taking care of everything else. So he walked over to the mess area. Grabbed a different flavor mush pouch, opened it up, placed it near the edge of the table, sat down in a chair and activated the breastplate hatch. The chest then opened up like a pair of double doors and leaned forward. He opened his eyes took the pouch and had the suit lean back in the chair. His parents woke a little over an hour later. He decided to meditate and so his parents wouldn't question where he was, he sat in one of the passengers seats facing the bunks with the chest of the armor open.

No alarms had gone off but his father soon slid out of the bunks. He saw the armor but didn't notice Royce till his weapon was out. "Um. I guess you won't need help getting things off the top shelf." his father said as the blaster was quickly folding back into his suits forearm.

"Since our lives are on the line I figured I'd need to be more functional. The suit was on board It has all the accessories for full combat in cargo. But I still need to recover my mana." He said while continuing meditation.

"Well we have three weeks right now, till we get to the edge of those shipping lanes. Unless you can speed us up again." Michael commented back."

"Right now I wouldn't get us very far. But if we can make it a couple of days we'll start doing jumps and get there faster than 3 weeks if we have to go all the way there or further."
