Lind had traveled for months before he finally caught up to one of his adversaries. He had followed a brutal chain of deaths until he came to a village.
It was there that he found a difference compared to the wilds he had found razed previously. Unlike the absolute but efficient destruction there, he found signs that a group had paused for some time in the village.
Burnt out husks were expected but not all were the same age. At least a few weeks passed from the outer edge to the inner areas. Further, he found signs of older bodies left to rot while others were much newer.
His long experience told him the brutality of life during the time of the invaders but strangely a few of the darker deeds were absent. There was zero sign of humiliation or sick games as might be expected.
Perhaps they simply were looking for information?
They had lost whatever lead they had on him and were trying to find new ones?
