Chapter 3 - The Alter

As I tailed the goblins I realized how dumb this was.

My curiosity truly got to me... Not only was this dangerous, this could lead to my death.

But I've already gotten this far, why not continue?

After a bit of chasing, the goblins finally apprehended the "Prey". It took a while due to its speed but it didn't have enough stamina to keep up with a horse-like animal.

The Goblin that stood at the forefront of the goblins looked much bigger than the others.

It started dissecting the Prey and soon took out an orb type object.

While looking at it, I felt weird. It felt like I was in some sort of audition and was performing at the stage in front of an uncountable crowd.

But looking at it, it definitely looked eerie. It was a pure black sphere that emanated a dark hue.

I jotted down my discomfort to the eerie look of the orb.

While I was wondering about the orb, the goblins started to head back.

It left the Prey and started to leave on their horses. Which I named "Death Horse" due to its skinny body that made its bones protrude.

Even though it was skinny, it was far from slow. It looked as if it wasn't fed well yet it went at a higher average speed than most horses, well at least that's what I think it's going at.

I hardly kept up with it even though I was level 12.

Which I didn't explain what levels really were. So I'll go on a brief overview on what levels were real quick.

Levels functioned similar with games, The higher the level, the stronger the player.

But instead of designating "Stat points" It would apply stats proportional to that I used in-between the level up. For example, I only killed and took damage so I got more strength and defense once I finally leveled up, or at least that's my observation.

Anyway back to the Prey, I headed straight towards it once the goblins left.

It was dead, I was sure of that 100%. But why would I go towards something that was already dead? Well its leather was very useful. The leather wasn't as thick as a Great Wolf's, and the horns wasn't as tough as Hell Boar tusks.

But It was good for one thing and one thing only... I could cut the leather up to make rope.

Why? Climbing.

This place had many mountains and hills that needed to be climbed to reach other places, so I had to make these.

I could use other materials but It was much better to use these. The leather of Prey is very hard to break, Its tensile strength was off the charts compared with different leathers.

It was astounding as It was one of the weakest creatures in this "Hell" like world, yet it had a great deal of material.

It not only tastes good but it was also useful.

I quickly severed the leather from the Prey, It wasn't a pretty sight but I didn't need it to be perfect as I would disassemble it to create rope.

Soon after I left the horrible sight of a dismembered animals corpse.

The Goblin King sat on his throne with a dignified presence.

"My King... We have regained the . Kek." It said as it held up a black orb in a respectful manner.

"Good... We do not want to leave our world in desolation. Grrkk."

"I see... Kek."

-BOOM

An explosion occurred beside the wall made of dead oak. Behind the now destroyed barricade were multiple goblins that wielded weapons.

"If this is what you want... Kek. Then I shall not stay for it... Kek."

The Goblin who held the dark orb, grinned.

"Grrk...! What is the meaning of this?!"

"Kek. What do you think it is, sire? Isn't it obvious? Keek."

The goblin who held the orb pointed his spear towards the Goblin King.

"We will give this to make a deal with The Alter and be saved from this never ending nightmare! Kek!"

-Griik! -Kiek! -Grrk!

The goblins that entered through the blown up wall shouted in agreeance.

As time passed, screams of other goblins were heard throughout the village.

The orb then let out a dark aura that seemed to grow bigger with each scream.

"Kek... I truly am sorry My King... But this is the only way Kek."

The other goblins that were beside the king held up their spears and aimed it at the kings neck.

The goblin that held the orb bowed before the king's head fell towards the floor and rolled towards him.

Picking up and holding his head, he said.

"Let the plan commence... Kek." He said with a mischievous grin.

-Burp

"Ahh..."

Grey wiped his mouth after stuffing himself with food.

He grabbed his belongings and started to walk. There was no destination, he just wanted to move around.

It's been 3 days since the Goblin encounter and nothing much has happened.

I've crafted the leather into rope, so if I ever need to go down some sort of mountain, then it'd be useful.

Now, I'm curious to know what those guys actually were... I keep forgetting that I don't know anything about this world at all and that I should be careful.

They looked to be goblins, at least the one humans depicted them as.

They also held that creepy looking orb. I have no idea what it was but I have a bad feeling about it.

Well, that's the extent of my worries. I don't really care as long as they don't get in my way.

I headed outside the safety of my little cave.

As I reached outside, what greeted me was the sight of a giant foot.

"Good Morning Atlas."

Or evening... This place doesn't get dark at all so...

I then grabbed my bags and started heading towards north.

I have no designated destination but I picked this direction in particular because this is where the goblins went.

Little did I know at the time...

~~~
-Thud Thud Thud
A Hell Boar started to limp as it ran into closed off areas.
-Vwishhh
Stab!
A wooden spear flew through the air before piercing the Boar straight through its stomach.
The Boar screamed in pain.
Grey walked towards the Boar that was bleeding.
It had tears running through it's face as it looked like it accepted it's death.
He observed the boar with an indifferent face before kneeling down and ending it with a knife he newly sharpened.
It was a quick slice to its throat, making it painless.
"It was either you, or me..."
He uttered with a sad tone.
-Growl
Sounds came from behind as wolves smelled the blood and came rushing over.
He pulled out the spear lodged in-between the stomach of the boar.
The wolves seemed to form a formation as they surrounded him.
Grey gave an annoyed expression but kept calm.
He gripped the spear hard. He stared at the 5 wolves in front of him, and as if taunting them he went into a relaxed expression.
The wolves saw this as mocking them and they continued with the first strike.
'Predictable'
He waited till they got too close and leaped to the air.
The wolves were surprised and collided with each other due to the sudden disappearance of their target.
As he came down, he stretched both his feet towards 2 of the wolves heads.
He came down and smashed the heads of the wolves he targeted.
The strength of the slam was so powerful, it cracked the hard rock beneath them.
He quickly aimed the spear to the wolf directly in front of him.
He lunged the spear towards the confused wolf and stabbed straight through it's skull.
That made 3 wolves. He looked behind to then see a wolf eating away at the dead boar.
Seeing this, Grey let go of the spear and ran towards the wolf.
He then delivered a swift kick. It threw the wolf 10 meters away, which seemed to knock it unconscious.
That was 4 wolves... But wasn't there 5?!
He looked around to see one wolf that seemed bigger than the others.
He sat there, watching his comrades die.
But even after seeing this, it seemed indifferent.
After the wolf was thrown from the kick, it stood up and made its move.
Grey didn't know what it was, but it felt much different than the other wolves he fought before.
The wolf looked much stronger...
The wolf then opened its mouth. As it did, Grey went into a stance.
The wolf opened its mouth and did something unbelievable...
It started howling... But that wasn't the end. The howl seemed to get louder and louder.
At one point it got so loud that Grey's ear started bleeding.
He blocked his ears before realising what was happening around him...
The rocks and dead trees were wavering and shaking.
It seemed like an earthquake... Yet the center of that earthquake was the wolf standing right there...
The wolf saw Grey drop his spear to block his ears and didn't let go of this opportunity.
It lunged towards him without stopping the loud noise.
Grey, who had his hands preoccupied, saw this sudden move and became nervous.
He then fixed himself and became much more serious...
He waited till the wolf was directly face to face and fell back on purpose, he then used the little time falling down to kick his leg up with all the force he could use.
He then kicked the wolf towards it's stomach.
The exchange happened in so little time that it didn't even feel like a battle...
It was so... Anticlimactic...?
The wolf was thrown in the air and landed right beside him unconscious.
He was laying down on the floor trying to catch his breath.
He didn't have time to rest though, as he instantly got up and killed the wolves that were still alive.
When he finally confirmed that the wolves were dead he went over the big one that almost gave him a tough time.
It was a little bit bigger than the others and had darker fur.
It was also pretty strong... But it was still a wolf, after being here for almost 5 months I've taken care of so many that I figured out how they work.
Grey thought about the loud noise it did for a bit before stabbing a knife through its neck.
It took a while to kill it as it's fur was too thick for a makeshift knife.
But eventually he killed it.
Although, what happened next was something that he didn't expect.
A familiar translucent screen appeared in front of him.
[Would you like to learn the skill ?] (Y/N)
