Seven Sins System Chapter 468. Cursed Task
I snapped my fingers and used my skill, attempting to distance myself from the unpleasant task at hand. 'Telekinesis,' I cast, hoping to manipulate the flask without having to touch it directly. But almost immediately, the system's notification flashed before my eyes.
[Telekinesis has failed!]
[The skill cannot be used on holy objects!]
I sighed, knowing full well that this was going to be the outcome. Devils and demons have a notorious inability to control or manipulate holy objects, especially those imbued with strong divine power. These objects were protected by their own flow of sacred energy, a barrier that we couldn't break through unless we used an overwhelming force, something much greater than the object itself. Destroying it was an option, but that would defeat the entire purpose of what I was trying to accomplish.
Still, I wasn't ready to give up. I snapped my fingers again, casting the skill once more, stubbornly hoping for a different result. The system responded as expected.
[Telekinesis has failed!]
[The skill cannot be used on holy objects!]
My frustration boiled over, and I snapped my fingers repeatedly, as if sheer persistence could overcome the divine barrier. But each time, the same message appeared, mocking my efforts.
"Right…" I muttered in annoyance, my voice heavy with resignation. I had no other choice but to handle the flask with my own hand, a prospect I wasn't particularly thrilled about. I hesitated for a moment, staring at the flask as if it were some venomous creature poised to strike. But I knew I couldn't avoid it any longer.
With a deep breath, I gripped the flask. The moment my fingers closed around the glass, a hot sensation shot through my hand, searing my skin even through the protective layer of the flask. It was as if I were holding a cup of scalding water, but the heat was far more intense, far more agonizing. Hot water and even the hellish inferno of my realm were nothing compared to this. This… this was unbearable.
A pained grimace crossed my face, but I forced myself to hold on. I could feel the holy energy radiating from the flask, like an invisible fire that licked at my flesh, threatening to burn me from the inside out. It was almost as if the flask itself were rejecting me, trying to force me to drop it. But I couldn't. Not now. Not when I was so close to completing what I had started.
I unscrewed the lid, the metal turning in my hand with a soft creak. As soon as the lid was off, the hot sensation intensified, the holy water inside reacting to the open air. The energy it emitted was palpable, almost suffocating, but I ignored it. I had to. There was no turning back now.
Carefully, I tilted the flask over the necklace on the table. I only needed a small amount—just enough to neutralize the remaining demonic power I had inadvertently infused into the metal. I had to be precise, controlled. If I poured too much, the holy water could spill over, and I'd have an even bigger mess on my hand.
'Just a little bit,' I reminded myself, steadying my hand as best as I could.
The first drop of holy water fell from the flask, hitting the necklace with a sharp hiss. The sound was immediate, almost violent, as if the water were corroding the metal. But that wasn't what was happening. Instead, the holy water was purifying the necklace, stripping away the demonic essence that clung to it, replacing it with a trace of divine energy.
I watched intently as the water spread across the surface of the necklace, the metal seeming to glow faintly in response. The gold chain trembled slightly, reacting to the clash of energies, but it held firm. Another drop fell, then another, each one accompanied by that same hissing sound. It was as if the necklace was being cleansed, purified of its dark origins.
The pain in my hand intensified, the holy water's proximity making it almost unbearable. My skin grew redder, the heat searing through the flesh as if the flask itself was a molten brand. But I gritted my teeth and held on, refusing to let go. I couldn't afford to lose control now—not when I was so close to completing this cursed task. I'd come too far to back down just because of a little—or rather, a lot—of pain.
When I felt that I had poured enough, I quickly straightened the flask, ready to close it and end this torment. But as I moved, a single droplet of holy water managed to escape, slipping past my guard and landing on the side of my hand.
The reaction was immediate. I distanced my hand and flinched, a sharp grunt escaping my lips as the pain shot through me like a bolt of lightning.
[You just received 15 points damage]
[Corrosive effect is starting!]
[Time remaining: 00:02]
I glanced down at the droplet on my skin, watching with growing dread as it sizzled and hissed, the holy energy corroding my flesh like acid. The sight of it was worse than I'd anticipated. The droplet didn't just burn—it was eating through my human guise, peeling away the skin like it was nothing, exposing the dark, raw demonic flesh beneath.
"Damn it," I muttered through clenched teeth, the pain quickly escalating from a searing burn to an agonizing throb. The holy water wasn't content with just burning me; it was actively attacking, as if it had a will of its own, a mission to purify or destroy anything unholy it touched. And right now, that mission was being carried out with terrifying efficiency on my hand.
The hissing sound grew louder, more insistent, as the droplet continued to work its way deeper into my skin. The air around it shimmered with a faint glow, the divine energy doing its work, purifying with every second that passed. But to me, it felt more like a punishment than a blessing.
