Everon's expression was grim as he examined Eira. Turning to Kaideon, he grimaced, "She's been held in a loop between life and death for too long. It's drained her will and comprehension of reality."
Everon had rushed over as soon as he heard. In his usual fashion, he'd sent out everyone who wasn't directly related to Eira before performing his examination.
Jian, Xenon and Cassian left on Everon's urging. Neveah, Kaideon and Nolan were the only ones left in the cavern.
"She's not dead. But she's not quite alive either."
Neveah winced visibly. She already expected that. She'd done her best to protect Eira even knowing that.
Because even when her memories were far beyond her grasp, she knew somewhere deep down that Kaideon deserved this moment...needed it, to finally get a closure.
Whatever he decided from here on out, there would at least be no more regrets.
