We walked downstairs and joined everyone else for dinner. Ruby had recovered much more and was very talkative this time. She happily chatted with everyone. Aquarina's parents managed to cheer her up too, and my mother told her it was an honor to be with the new generation of heroes. She said she looked forward to a future where all of us would do everything we could to help anyone in need.
She didn't say we had to slay the Demon King or invade the Demon Continent to terrorize demons. Instead, she and our parents emphasized that as Heroes, our duty was simply to save and help people in need and to vanquish evil—the simple, classical way a hero truly is.
Not someone commanded, forced, or told to slay a certain group our gods deem "evil." Just do what Heroes do, and that's it.
And I agree with what she said.
But at the same time, she added something else.
