The man didnt seem the least fazed by her glaring and told his chauffeur to drive him home.
"Straight to Sky blue."
Abena looked back at the hotel that was now leaving her view. "Sky blue? Where is that? President Pei, I have to go home." She pretended to have forgotten about the kidnapping and was expecting a response from him when she recieved a call. It waz from her evil landlady.
"Good afternoon Madam Chi, happy valentine."
The old Madams voice echoed from the speaker. Happy valentine my foot! How dare you! When are you going to pay up what you owe me? I have beenr letting you off for a month now, do you want to take my act of kindness for granted?"
Abena rolls her eyes when she heard the Madams last statement. Act of kindness her foot. The landlady has been harassing herself for the past two months and she was only unable to pay up because the evil woman had increased the house rent.
"I…" she glanced at Pei Shangdi who was engrossed in a document in his hand while looking through his laptop. Shifting to the door, she lowered her voice and replied. "I will pay you up this month. Just give me some more time."
The landlady began to shout again and Abena quickly decreased the volume of her Phone, scared that the man would over hear everything. The chauffeur had already rolled down the black glass. Separating the front seat from the back seat.
"This month? You are telling me to wait another fourteen days? If you dont pay me this week, just come and pack your things when I leave them outside. You bastard! Why did I even give you the room in the first place. How ungrateful. Pay me this week or leave!" She hung up before Abena could even find something to say in response.
Rubbing her temples, she quickly began to scroll through her contact list for anyone she could borrow money from. She had recently borrowed money from Jiangjiang and had just managed to pay it back after feeding on ordinary steam burned for food for two weeks. She wouldn't dare to ask the girl for money again. Her only hope was Pei Fang but she had promised herself to not bother him with her financial problems when they became friends. She did not want it to look as if she was intentionally taking advantage of him.
Resting her head into the seat, she pulled her legs together and looked out of the window.
If this evil landlady were to send her out, where would she go to.
An idea quickly rushed through her and she picks her phone to text Pei Fang but recieved a call from her mother
Hesitantly, she finally picks.
"Abena."
"Child..how have you been?" Before she could respond, her mother went straight to the pressing matter she had to say. "Have you thought about it? If you marry Mr Coleman, you wont have to worry about what to eat or worry about spending money."
"Isnt that man marired?" She questioned sitting upright, her tone starting to raise a bit.
Her mother who was busy selecting which bag to pick for a social event to womens gathering twitches her lips and picks a Hermes bag. Matching it to her self, she was satisfied with the bag and begins to walk out of the dressing room. "He is currently working to divorce his wife. Abena dont waste what you have. Look at you, you have the right curves to make any man want you and you are good looking. Why do you wnat to make life difficult for yourself?"
"Isn't this man eighty four years old?" She asked her tone now very calm and soft.
"So…? Does it matter? What matters is what you will get from him. Give him a child and your future will he secured." She said it as if it was nothing and it made ants crawl on Abenas skin.
Who would have thought that her own mother would treat her this way?
"I am no interested."
"You bastard! Other kids your age are sending their moms expensive gifts and stuff but you wont send me anything. For how long will you live like a rat? Do you want to end up like your father?"
"Dont you dare bring my father into this. And yes...I may be living like a rat but at least I have my pride. You want me to marry my great grandfather? If that man is that good, why dont you marry one of your step children to him? You…" she throws her head up and tries to fight back the tears. She had told herself she didn't care and that she wasn't related to this woman anymore but the feeling of wanting a mothers love and affection just seem to ruin her plans.
Everytime she hopes her mom would change, the woman just turns out to be even worse. "You dont even care how I am doing. If you sold one of those bags, it would be enough for me to live for good six months. But you are so materialistic, you dont even care about your only child."
Her mother glanced at the Hermes she was holding. "No way I would sell my baby for you."
She scoffs. As if she had expected it. "Then marry that bag off to that gross man you horrible home wrecker!" She shouted into the phone and then angrily hung up throwing the phone beside her and staring at the streets that was now becoming blurry in her vision.
Was she just born with bad luck or was she cursed with it? It would have been better if she just had tov lie like a poor human but having a mother who didnt give two shits what happens to her and says it to her face, life was simply being too cruel.
Just when she was trying to suck in her tears and think of solutions on hows solve her problems, he felt a cold palm rest on her thigh. Shifting her face to look in his direction, she noticed he had put the laptop and document aside. Pei Shangdi looked cold and unfeeling but it kind of gave her comfort.
She didn't want a man who has just confessed that he is in love with her to find her pitiful in any way. Just as she as thinking of what to say to him, he swept her into his arms in a smooth motion and wraps both hands around her waist. Burying his head into her hair, he began to hum a song.
Something he had only done for her back then.
