"Ah, I'm so sorry. I had no idea..." Elayne murmured, genuinely surprised that Chalk wanted to chat about such personal things. She had assumed the girl despised her kind far more deeply. "I was under the wrong impression that you disliked us..."

"I-I...! I don't enjoy talking with worthless undead..." Chalk huffed, crossing her arms tightly. "But my brother and father, for some strange reason, truly care about you. I just wanted to see what makes you so special!"

"Heh, I understand," Elayne replied with a gentle smile.

"Lady Chalk, it's not hard to see that you feel lonely," Lisette interjected boldly. As a fellow White Ghost, he could afford such frankness.

"W-What...! Silence that child's mouth! If he weren't of my race, I would have already chopped him into pieces and fed him to the Nether beasts," Chalk snapped, though her sigh betrayed more weariness than anger.
