Chapter 40 - S.J.F: The Key and the Altar

A sudden gust of wind came from below. Above was Karin, flying. Everyone was astonished at what they saw; only someone of the Monarch Realm could take flight. Normally, only artifacts or special cultivation techniques allowed a person to achieve such a feat.

Karin quickly neutralized the situation and cleared up the misunderstanding. Those who had tried to take advantage of her absence knew they had no choice but to back down. Even the guardian of the Heavenly Demon Sect was surprised, but Karin explained everything that had happened inside the cave. Now she could cultivate the teachings of the previous Heavenly Demon and increase her cultivation at a much faster rate, so she immediately got busy with it.

Meanwhile, Rune explained everything that had happened to him over the past months. Ross understood but still told him to leave the area.

"You are not strong enough to confront him yet," Ross said.

Rune ignored the warning.

"What is he planning this time? I heard some rumors," Rune asked.

Ross knew there was no stopping him, so he spoke of a group of rebels who might be able to help. They were called the S.J.F, the Southern Justice Fragments, scattered individuals who brought justice to the corrupt kingdom while hiding throughout the city.

"Although you can't find them, they will find yo—" Ross stopped mid-sentence as Rune interrupted, pulling out the key he had received from the man.

Ross paused. "Looks like they already did. I don't know much, but this key might be your way into their place. I have no clue where it could be, though—you'll need to check it out yourself."

"Thanks, Ross," Rune said. "I plan on setting the S-4 on fire to kill him."

Ross's expression turned grim. "That's your mother's ultimate work. Are you crazy?"

"That might be the best use for that jet—killing the worst criminal on this planet. It's unfinished anyway," Rune replied before getting up.

"I'll see you later," he said, leaving.

It was 4 A.M., an hour before dawn. He was ready to find where the key led.

Meanwhile, Isshin was struggling inside the forest. He used his system's HUD to track every single tree in his vision, making sure he didn't end up in a loop. Raijin's system granted Isshin inhuman powers even immortals didn't possess—the ability to calculate infinite possibilities.

When it came to math, physics, and magic, his brain automatically determined the best outcome in a fraction of a second. The stronger he became, the more of his brain he could use. The system could even measure what level of IQ was needed for certain tasks and mental feats. At that moment, Isshin was using 321 IQ to calculate the positions of grass and trees and keep it all remembered.

Isshin was struggling with the mental pressure, but he had to remember everything in order. Of course, Raijin could calculate it all with ease, but he rarely helped Isshin, forcing him to learn on his own and not rely on Raijin except for martial arts and divine qi.

After thirty minutes, Isshin finally found a wall. It looked like an old structure, but there was no opening. The forest was strange—the trees stretched kilometers into the sky, so dense that barely any light made it through. Isshin could have broken through the wall, but that would have attracted the giant beasts of the forest, some even in the Monarch Realm. So instead, he just climbed.

If only he was in the Monarch Realm, he could have flown up easily.

After climbing for a while, he found a small hole. Looking through, he saw tall stone structures and ancient architecture inside. Spider webs covered the corners, marking its age. A massive opening in the roof allowed sunlight to pour through. To the left, he noticed an altar.

Isshin squeezed himself through the gap and slipped inside. But then, he heard voices. Quickly, he hid behind a pillar.

Two middle aged men were walking. They seemed skilled, wearing the same category of clothing probably from the same sect.

"We need to take the egg back before the wyvern returns," one of them said.

Isshin realized they were up to no good. He considered ignoring them, but a loud roar echoed before he could move. It was the wyvern.

The two men panicked and ran, but before they could escape, the wyvern dropped from above, landing directly on the altar with a thunderous crash. Smoke and dust filled the air.

It stood just meters away from Isshin, who now knew he was completely screwed.
