"You are acting weird now…" The elder brother remarked as he studied his baby sister's conflicted and lost appearance.
Who in their family did not know that Chansey had only one allergy but even that single allergy was sufficient to cause her immense pain?
This made them overly cautious to never let her consume anything with this allergen.
They had always been wary for her sake but it now appeared that the person with this serious allergy seemed to have forgotten all about it.
Initially, he had assumed that everything that had taken place tonight had frazzled her mind, resulting in her momentary confusion.
However, now that deduction had changed after taking a look at the intense curiosity evident in her gaze, which she could not seem to hide.
Noticing the suspicion that took root on the older man's face, Camille began to panic and tried her best to come up with the best plausible explanation for being curious about something that should have been common knowlegde to her from childhood.
'It's not my fault that I just cannot remember!' She grumbled as that particular part of her memory continued to be hazy.
Thanks to the memories she received earlier, she was confident that the former Camille had eaten something she was allergic to, but no matter how hard she tried, she could not recall what it was.
To alleviate her curiosity regarding the information that could save her life in the future, she had inquired about this matter but it looked like she had made the wrong move as it had invoked her brother's suspicions.
However, while she was still trying hard to find an appropriate excuse, the elder brother had already worked harder for her sake.
Recalling the panic and chaos that ensued after they sat down for dinner at a famous restaurant, he realized that he too would have been puzzled if he was in her position.
After all, Chansey knew what she was allergic to and hence, she consciously tried to stay away from it at all times.
He too made sure to be mindful of what he ordered when they dined together.
Therefore, his shock was immense when he noticed that she was finding it difficult to breathe right after taking the first bite out of her plate.
Before he could react, he saw her face turn pale and her lips a deep blue as her airway began closing in.
The severity of the situation struck him hard, forcing him to regain his senses as he hurriedly picked her up and rushed her out of the restaurant.
He had made sure to not order anything that could cause an allergic reaction but looking at his sister who had already passed out in his arms, he knew that something had gone wrong somewhere.
Either the server who took their order had messed it up or the food prepared had been accidentally contaminated with the allergen.
No matter how he looked at it, he could not deny that it was due to the restaurant's negligence that this incident had occured.
Though he had reached this conclusion back when he was at the restaurant, he did not wish to waste even a single second here as each passing moment was precious to his unconscious sister, who needed medical treatment right away.
Therefore, for the sake of her safety, he chose to leave the restaurant first as he needed to take her to the nearest hospital before it was too late.
However, this did not mean that he would let them off the hook so easily.
To deal with this mess for him, he had called his assistant and instructed him on what needed to be done next.
After Chansey's treatment in the emergency room, she was brought to this hospital room and while she was still unconscious, his assistant had reached out to him with the result of the investigation he had ordered.
In his report, the assistant revealed the cause of this incident, which was not at all according to his earlier speculations.
Thus when he combined this result of the investigation with what had taken place, it was understandable that his baby sister was confused and curious.
Recalling just how alarmed he was when she had shown symptoms of an abrupt allergic reaction despite taking the proper precautions as they always did, it was only natural for her to feel the same.
Hence, her questioning from earlier now did not seem so out of the ordinary when he thought about this series of unforeseen events from her perspective.
'She must have thought a new allergy popped up.' He snickered and shook his head at how naive she could be.
Sitting at the side, Camille did not know what was going through his mind but would have been glad if she could hear his thoughts.
After all, this brother was helping her think of an excuse on her behalf for not remembering the life-threatening ailment that she was supposed to know all about.
"The secret sauce added in your lobster fettuccine had mussel broth in it." He revealed the investigation report his assistant had sent over.
Chansey had a severe allergy to mussels so she stayed away from them but she was fine with other kinds of seafood.
Therefore, she had ordered the famous lobster fettuccine which was a must-have in the restaurant they had visited for the first time this evening.
Who would have thought that the chef used a secret ingredient - mussel broth in his recipe?
The presence of something cooked with mussels had caused Chansey, who had ordered the lobster, to fall ill right away.
Therefore, he did not know who to blame for the mess that had been created due to the secret sauce.
Because unlike his earlier speculations, neither did the server give them the wrong dish nor was there any case of accidental contamination.
Instead, it was the secret sauce which the chef had created to enhance the flavor of the dish.
Unfortunately for the siblings, this secret sauce had caused their relaxing meal to turn into a chaotic and stressful trip to the hospital.
On the other hand, upon hearing what had induced the sudden allergic reaction, Camille was both surprised and excited.
In her past life, she was so scared of dying due to her shellfish allergy that she had never touched any kind of seafood.
However, it seemed that this body, for some strange reason, was allergic only to mussels but was able to consume other kinds of seafood.
This realization was now making her eyes shine brightly as a certain thought popped up in her mind.
'Maybe I can finally enjoy seafood in this life?' She gulped her saliva while imagining how they might taste as she had never gotten the chance to eat them in her previous life.
At the thought of getting to try all the dishes she was forced to stay away from for her safety, a loud rumbling growl echoed in the silent hospital room.
This loud grumble startled Camille whose ears turned red and soon the man seated next to her burst into laughter when he could no longer hold it in, further heightening her embarrassment.
If that wasn't enough, the nurse, who had left earlier, had now returned and had brought a doctor along with her.
The two had walked into the room a second ago when they happened to hear just how loud her empty stomach could get.
With her cheeks also turning a deep red, Camille glared at her brother, who raised his hands in defeat but was still struggling to hold in his tittering laughter.
Choosing to ignore him, she put on an awkward smile and greeted the two, who were now walking toward her bed.
"You seem better now." The doctor, a young man who appeared to be in his early thirties remarked after noticing the color that had returned to her face.
He was the same doctor who had treated the unconscious woman after she was brought to the emergency room, earlier this evening.
Back then, he could hardly sense her pulse - her heartbeat, and she had stopped breathing due to the obstructed trachea - the airway that brought oxygen to her lungs.
Thankfully, they were able to resuscitate her before any permanent damage was caused to her brain due to the prolonged lack of oxygen.
Now seeing her up so soon and even energetic enough to glare at her brother, the doctor thought this to be a good sign.
However, he did not slack and did his job well by checking her vitals before concluding that she was fine and out of any immediate danger.
"You may go if you wish to but make sure that you do not stress yourself out or your baby." He instructed and wrote down a few medicines which would help with any pain she was experiencing.
Since she was pregnant, he did not want her to be taking anything more than what was absolutely necessary so the list was short and he handed it over to the man, who had accompanied her to the hospital.
Earlier when this man had carried the patient into the emergency room, he had assumed this man to be the patient's husband.
However, after going through the admission form he had filled out, the doctor soon realized his folly.
"Please take care of your sister, Mister Linsor." He reminded the elder brother of the patient before heading out of the room with the nurse following after him.
He had completed his job here so there was no longer any need for them to stick around as there were other patients that needed their attention.
Staying on the night shift was often peaceful but sometimes, it got crazy just like it had been tonight.
Miss Camille Linsor was the first patient he had seen tonight who was almost on the verge of collapsing and now, he was heading to check on his other critical patient of the night.
"Why do people drink so much?" He let out a deep sigh and his nurse who walked next to him shook her head as she too never understood why people drank to the extent of getting alcohol poisoning.
However, it was their duty to treat patients regardless of what they felt about them or their lifestyles.
Hence, the two made their way to a different part of this vast hospital, to observe the condition of the second critical patient in their care for the night.
