Mother Alicia's explanation of the light elves explained a lot to Rui about why they were going to inevitably attack him. In particular, he was the epitome of what they wanted to change, it appeared.
They were irrevocably provoked, by their emotions, to attack him and eliminate him if they felt that other species needed to be brought into line and 'back to nature.'
"To be clear," Mother Alicia's tone grew pointed. "While we regret that much of the modern world has abandoned its bond with nature and has butchered its mother, we don't share the idea that they need to be brought back with force. We maintain a friendly relationship with any civilization that doesn't wish to conquer us. And we are still eager to maintain this brand-new alliance and friendship with you, our human friends. While we encourage you to make use of the nature that you have and will supply you all the technology needed to do so, we by no means wish to try and force you."
