Chapter 28 - Chapter 28: Didn't You Help Him?

"Coming, coming, why are you yelling at me?"

Although she said this, Liu Mei quickly went back to help. She had no choice, as the whole family was counting on her husband's managerial job to save face.

Now, the authority in the household had transferred from Liu Mei to Sun Zhi, thanks to his promotion.

But even though Liu Mei was called back by Sun Zhi, she didn't forget to boast to Lin Yi before leaving:

"Your Uncle Sun bought a new Audi A6. Someone also gifted him some rice and other things. I need to go and help organize them. Let me tell you, this car is expensive, tens of thousands! You should work hard, maybe when you reach your Uncle Sun's age, you could save up for one too."

Seeing Liu Mei's face, which seemed instructive but was actually showing off, it's a wonder where this confidence comes from.

Lin Yi shook his head with a smile, not intending to stoop to her level.

He casually raised his hand and pressed the Range Rover's remote.

Click.

As Lin Yi pressed the remote, the newly bought Range Rover's lights started flashing immediately.

Liu Mei, who had already walked to her husband's side, did not see this. Hearing the sound, she suspiciously turned her head to look at Lin Yi, muttering:

"Huh? What's that noise? Did you hear, Lao Sun? What's wrong with you? Why do you look so bad?"

She looked at her husband, only to see his face turning red with embarrassment. She immediately asked with concern.

However, Sun Zhi didn't respond to her concern. Instead, he was staring at the brand-new Range Rover with a complicated expression.

Liu Mei didn't see what just happened, but that didn't mean Sun Zhi didn't.

From Lin Yi raising his hand to the Range Rover's lights flashing, Sun Zhi saw it clearly.

Most importantly, because of Sun Zhi's job and his love for luxury cars, he often researches them online.

Just one look, and he recognized it as a top-tier Range Rover. Even without any custom options, it would cost probably around four hundred!

What does that mean? If he converted his newly bought second-hand old A6 into that price, he could exchange it for maybe seventy of them!

And what made his face flush with shame was his wife's earlier flaunting of their shabby A6 in front of Lin Yi.

It was an extreme irony to show off a 60,000-second-hand old A6 in front of a person who drives a 400,000 luxury car...

There's no exaggeration to say that if there were a crack in the ground in front of Sun Zhi, he would dive in without hesitation.

As for whether this car belonged to Lin Yi, Sun Zhi was one hundred percent certain it did!

Just from looking at its condition, it was clearly straight out from the dealership. And it just so happened that Lin Yi sold it for five million yesterday.

If he said this car wasn't Lin Yi's, he wouldn't believe it.

"What are you looking at, Lao Sun? Huh? Is that a Range Rover? It's the same as our boss's. I know this car; it's called Divine Walker, right? My boss said it costs over sixty thousand! But whose car is this? I've never seen it in the neighborhood before?"

Hearing Liu Mei still babbling, Sun Zhi's face turned even redder. If you don't recognize it, can you stop making a fool of yourself? Divine Walker? Your whole family is Divine Walker!

Before he could scold her, Liu Mei continued speaking to herself:

"It must be someone visiting, huh. Who would've thought there's someone in our neighborhood with relatives worth as much as my husband."

"Are you done? If you don't speak, no one will take you for a mute!"

After saying that, maybe out of sheer loss of face, Sun Zhi bent over, half his body into the trunk, trying to move a bag of rice.

And Liu Mei couldn't help but mutter under her breath: "So fierce, always scolding me all day long."

Lin Yi listened to their conversation and couldn't help but smile and shake his head, walking past them to head upstairs.

However, before he could speak, the sharp-eyed Liu Mei noticed him.

"Hey Lin Yi, wait, wait, don't leave yet. Your Uncle Sun's back isn't good. Since you're young and strong, help us carry this, would you?"

Lin Yi was taken aback at first, then stopped, turned around, and walked towards them: "Haha, sure, let me help."

After all, they were neighbors and elders.

Besides, with so many people watching in the neighborhood, if he just walked away, people might gossip that the Lin kid lacked manners.

But Sun Zhi, bending over to move rice from the trunk, almost dropped the rice inside when he heard Liu Mei ask Lin Yi to help:

"Liu Mei, what's wrong with you? Why call Xiao Yi to help?"

After scolding Liu Mei, he looked at Lin Yi, who came over. Although embarrassed, he forced a bitter smile:

"It's okay, Xiao Yi, don't listen to your Aunt Liu. You don't need to help. Isn't the college entrance exam the day after tomorrow? Go back and study."

Even though he didn't like Lin Yi, he had to say this. After all, Lin Yi was doing better than him and even held one of his secrets.

"Haha, it's alright, it's just a small effort. I haven't thanked you for yesterday yet."

As he spoke, Lin Yi stepped forward, lifted a bag of rice from the trunk onto his shoulder, and sincerely expressed his gratitude.

This gratitude came from the heart. Without the car he got with those fifty thousand, he wouldn't have owned this Range Rover.

But to Sun Zhi, Lin Yi's words felt like a pin stabbing his heart.

On the other hand, Liu Mei looked puzzled after hearing Lin Yi's words. She glanced at her husband, then at Lin Yi, who seemed unbothered, and felt perplexed.

What? From what Lin Yi said, did her husband help him yesterday? But she hadn't heard about it last night. Why didn't Lao Sun mention helping Lin Yi? She could have let Ye Xiaoer remember this favor!

"Hey, no, no! You don't need to help, Xiao Yi. Just put it here, I'll do it myself, leave it to me!"

Seeing her husband so anxious, Liu Mei suddenly spoke up:

"Oh, come on, Lao Sun. Your back isn't well, let Lin Yi help carry a bag of rice, what's the big deal? Besides, from what Lin Yi said, didn't you help him yesterday?"
