Chapter 62 - Chapter 62: Preparing To Head Out

Date Monday, September 7, 2275

The next day I woke up feeling stronger and better than ever, all thanks to the mass level up I underwent last night. Laying there in bed for a few more seconds, I checked the digital clock on my Pip-Boy to see how much time I was going to have to work with.

1:53 AM, huh. That's a bit earlier than usual. I suppose I'll be using those extra minutes for either working out or getting something put together in my workshop.

Having found the time, I used my perk Ghost to get out of Amata's hold on my arm. From there, I jumped out of bed and stretched my muscles for several seconds, like usual, and whilst I was stretching them out, I checked up on my robots to see how they were progressing. I quickly found my boys from the metro had finished tunneling and had finally broken through and met up with my other robots working in the earth below.

It's great waking up to a major project being completed.

Overjoyed with the current state of things, I let them continue as they were and turned my attention elsewhere. Leaving that team of workers to expand the tunnel, reinforce everything underground, and assist the others already digging out the third underground level for the metro rail to run through.

Utilizing the many thought processes I had available, I speedily blew through this routine task of mine and once I was content with everything, I took control of the new robots and turrets that were manufactured in the night while I was sleeping soundly in bed with my girl snuggled up against me.

Immediately, upon taking control of them, I assigned the new workforce I gained to the construction efforts taking place underground. And before they could start carrying out their newly assigned job, I queued up another project for them to take care of following the completion of their current one, which was the construction of a proper firing range.

The instant I had taken care of all of that and my muscles were nice and loosened up, I used my new perk that I got the previous night Target Acquired on Amata just so I can keep track of her whereabouts in case she gets abducted at some point or another. I doubt it'll ever happen, but one can never be too careful, especially with the Zetans running amuck abducting people from earth on the regular.

So, with my fiancée marked, I headed for the bathroom as usual and sped through my daily routine that I performed every single morning. Once I was finished taking care of my hygiene, I got dressed in some workout clothes and left our room in a hurry, both excited and ready to get back to the grind. Leaving our shared living quarters behind, I transitioned to the dining area below and filled my stomach up for the workout I was about to get in. When I was done filling my gut with a ton of protein as well as a decent amount of carbs, I strode back to the elevator and took it down to the first floor underground.

As soon as it reached the first underground level and the doors opened up, I proceeded to the workout and training area and got to work on increasing my already impressive abilities and stats even further. While I was beginning my regime on the various heavy machines, I began thinking about what I wanted to accomplish this morning besides completing my workout.

What do I want to do after this workout session of mine... Well, seeing how I'm going to be raiding the Rockland Satellite Relay Station to take it over it and bring it under my control, it would probably be in my best interest to make some new turrets with better damage and penetration capabilities. Ones that will be able to deal with any sort of Enclave reinforcements that might come my way when I attempt to take the military installation for myself.

As for what sort of weapons the new designs should have, I think it would be more efficient to make some sort of laser cannon on account of them not requiring ammo. However, given the amount of time I have to work with here to make the design and begin production of it, it doesn't really make all that much sense... I suppose I'll be better off to go with something I already have on hand, like my newly designed gauss weapons, for example. The automated manufacturing machines have already been pumping out parts for them, so going with them will definitely cut down on turret production time.

And if I condense my workout today and work harder than I usually do, I should be able to shave an hour off of my workout. Which I can use to start building a dedicated Automated Turret Manufacturing Machine, that will boost my turret manufacturing capacity by 100 turrets per day upon its completion... Yeah, I'll go with that for now and in the event I can't get it done in that time frame I'll delay our mission for however long I need to get all of that completed, but given my new enhanced capabilities that shouldn't be necessary.

With some important work that needed doing after my workout, I got back to working out, although even harder and more intense than previously. After subjecting myself to a plethora of exercises and training methods for three hours straight, I finally wrapped things in the gym and training area and briskly walked to the showers to clean up.

Moving through things quickly, I cooled myself down, hopped out of the shower, dried off, and changed into a fresh set of clothes before racing back upstairs to the manufacturing area of my home to begin work on the new turret design. Once I reached my workshop, I didn't procrastinate even a second and got right to work making the last of my preparations for the mission ahead.

...

"Alright, that should do it." I thought aloud as I looked over my work.

What I had on the desk in front of me after busying myself for the last half-hour mark was a blueprint for a gatling gauss turret that was basically an armored-up Ravenger minus all the attachments and whatnot.

Satisfied with the turret design I finished in record time, I moved onto my next project and began rapidly building the Automated Turret Manufacturing Machine. Following a period of two and half hours of working on it, I put the last of the finishing touches on this wonderful creation of mine and immediately put it into service manufacturing my new turret design once it was good and ready.

While the machine started up, I checked the digital clock on my Pip-Boy and found that it was about time I went upstairs to retrieve Amata so we could go eat with Don in the dining hall and discuss the details regarding today's excursion and if he wanted to join us on the outing.

So, with that being the case, I raced upstairs, woke up Amata, and chilled out for several minutes while I waited for her to get herself in order. Not long into my relaxation sesh, she came out changed and ready to go so we made our way downstairs and met up with the rest of our small group that were already in the midst of eating their morning meal. Which was prepared by several of my Worker Bots manning the dining area on the upper floors.

Getting some breakfast of our own, the both of us headed to the large table where everyone was seated, sat down near Don, and began eating whilst chatting about this and that, with everyone at the table in between bites. After filling myself up and chatting for some time, I shot Don a certain look, which he understood seconds later as me wanting him to hold back. Not all that long later, the rest of the ghouls in our group trickled out and exited the dining hall, leaving just me, Amata, and Don at the large table.

So, with only those participating in today's mission remaining at the table, I looked at Don and commenced the discussion. "Don, Amata and I are going on a little mission today to the Rockland Satellite Relay Station. Do you want to come with us, or would you rather stay back and hold down the fort while we're gone?"

"What kind of mission are we talking about?" Don inquired in his usual raspy ghoul voice.

"We're going there to take control of it since there's a high likelihood that it's being controlled by Enclave and if it is, they can use it to aim the Bradley-Hercules satellite that they have control over to drop orbital bombardments on wherever and whoever they like. I'm not all that comfortable with them having control over an orbital weapons platform. Hence, why we're setting out on this mission today."

"Furthermore, this excursion will be an infiltration mission, with me infiltrating the facility while Amata provides overwatch above via the rocky and elevated terrain around the facility. So if you have any experience with extracting information from hostile forces, it would come in handy for this mission. However, if you do come along, I'll have you sit back with the robots at the Warrington Trainyard, since your armor doesn't have the stealth abilities mine and Amata's do." I added.

"...I don't really have any experience with extracting information, but I know the gist of it from my time in the military, so I should be of some help if we do come across them and you want them interrogated." Don said after a few seconds had passed.

"So you want to come with us or stay back?" I posed the question to him again.

"I'll come along, but bring me in as soon as there's some action to be had." He answered with a hint of eagerness in his voice, probably because there was a chance he'll be able to get some payback on the Enclave.

"As soon as I know for sure we won't have an orbital strike dropped on us, I will, but until then, stay put with the robots."

"Alright, now that we got that all out of the way, let's go get suited up and ready to head out." I said lastly before all three of us proceeded out of the dining hall to go throw our kit on.

...

Shortly thereafter, Amata and I returned to our home away from home, and right as we did, we started equipping all of our gear. Spending the next several minutes doing just that, we managed to get all of our shit on and began moving for our room's entrance.

But before we exited our room, I looked over at Amata and said. "Hold up for a second, Amata. Before we head out, I spent my accumulated level-ups last night and got a new perk that will help us both out, called Power Armor Modder."

"Oh, what sort of effects does it have, Harold?" She inquired, curious.

"It lets me apply those S.P.E.C.I.A.L. points I told you about a while back to your power armor."

"That should be very useful then, especially for me, so how many can you apply?" She responded, looking excited at the prospects of getting a power up of her very own.

"I can apply one per piece of power armor, which is a total of six points per full set of power armor. It's honestly not too bad."

"What do you mean not too bad? That's a huge increase for any normal person... So which S.P.E.C.I.A.L.s are you going to apply to my armor?" She replied speechless at my increasing standards.

"Hmm, I guess you're right, but they really won't affect me all that much as compared to when my stats were within somewhat normal human limits. That aside, I was thinking of applying all the points as Endurance since that will increase your stamina and your durability massively, which I think is what you really need right now. But if you would prefer other S.P.E.C.I.A.L.s instead, that's fine, too."

"No, if that's what you think is best, I trust your judgment, babe." Amata responded somewhat jokingly towards the end.

Following that discussion, I applied the six points of Endurance to Amata's power armor, which she noticed the effects of immediately. Done with her's, I applied six points of Agility to my own power armor since I could probably use a bit of extra speed above all else.

Finished applying those S.P.E.C.I.A.L. points to both of our power armors, we proceeded to the elevator, got onto it, and rode it down to the main level. Once our ride reached the floor, we hopped off it and walked in the direction of the loading area. However, as we were making our way over, I made a sudden detour for the warehouse area and added an additional 80 Pulse Grenades to my inventory. So I could disable any power armor-equipped Enclave on this trip without destroying their armor if the need to ever arose.

Armed to the teeth and more than prepared for what was to come, I had Amata grab a Lancer gauss machine gun since her usual AER 29 LMG wasn't really going to cut it against Enclave power armor unless she really lays into them for an extended period. The moment she retrieved one of the newly manufactured Lancers, I showed her the weapon's different functions and operations. And as soon as she understood the weapon's various functions; she slung the weapon against herself before we left the warehouse area and continued on to our original destination.

When we arrived at the loading area, Don and our group of robots were already waiting there for us, ready to go, including my new massive unit, Goliath, who has upgraded my group's firepower by a massive margin. So, with our preparations made and everyone here, I opened the massive blast door with Mechu-deru and led the way forward, as per usual.

"Okay, let's head out."

"Affirmative-" Many of my mechanical creations responded simultaneously.

Keeping formation, we departed from base en masse and once the last of us made it past the door; I shut it via my Mechu-deru and circled around the facility, with everyone trailing right behind me in a defensive formation.

I'm almost done with Volume 2 for my other work, Wasteland Conqueror, so this will be getting releases again... But not too frequently since I'm working on other webnovels that get more support/interest.
