Chapter 67 - Chapter 67: Safety Measure

Departing from the dining hall for my personal workshop, my many thought processes were hard at work trying to come up with something that could make use of these two hours I found myself with. I knew it was only a matter of time before I came up with something, so I left it up to them and continued progressing towards my workshop with Amata holding my hand and not long into our journey through the facility; I had a few ideas come to me.

After brainstorming for a bit, I think I'll work on upgrades for the automated robot manufacturing machines and focus on increasing their daily production capacity so my plans and other objectives can be carried out even faster than they already are.

I'm also going to be going up against the Enclave, the Brotherhood Outcasts, nearly the entirety of the super mutant population, and the many raider bands spread across the capital wasteland… And possibly the Brotherhood of Steel if peaceful diplomatic efforts fail. Therefore, pumping out as many robots as I possibly can is going to remain a top priority, so I can take on these powerful factions.

And that's only taking into account what's here in the Capital Wasteland and not elsewhere, like the Institute to my north in the Commonwealth and Ishmael Ashur with his army of raiders to the northwest in The Pitt formerly known as Pittsburgh. Alongside those sizable foes, I'll have even bigger fish to fry out west like the NCR and the Legion. There are also a plethora of other unknown powers and forces making their moves across the continent, but I'm not even going to get started on them.

So, having covered all that, I'll be needing one hell of an army if I wish to accomplish my goals within the next several years or at all. Therefore, upping my robot production is going to remain on my priority list... At least until I've carved out and established my own territory and have dealt with the Zetan threat above.

Those future worries aside, making those upgrades shouldn't take me that long to draw out since I've already been planning things and coming up with ideas in my head for a decent while now. Hence, I'm going to design the machinery I'll require to produce the Enclave's force field generator tech. And if I have enough time available, I'll do the planning for a dedicated research and development facility for Michael and the converted Enclave scientists, so they can begin putting their talents to use.

Although, not fully, since I still need to raid and loot several different kinds of research and science labs to obtain the necessary specialized tools and equipment to bring it up to what I would consider an acceptable level. However, there aren't too many locations that meet those sorts of qualifications other than Raven Rock and the vaults, most of which have been compromised. Meaning if I want to stock the lab with a whole assortment of state-of-the-art equipment and have it actually produce something worthwhile, my sights will have to be set beyond the D.C. area.

Maybe I should pay a trip to Boston... Mm, do I really want to go poking around the Institute's territory just yet when my hands are already full enough with what I have to deal with here, probably not.

I guess I could look in the areas surrounding the capital wasteland that weren't covered in the game if I don't want to travel that far… Hmm, on second thought, those compromised vaults may not be that worthless after all, seeing how I possess a perk that can repair and revert things to how they once were. Yeah, that sounds like it might be a viable idea, so I'll just try my luck there before I pursue any other solutions.

[ Ding! New Quest ]

✩ | Scientific Advancement | Objectives: Construct a research laboratory with all the bells and whistles and produce 10 new technological advancements and or inventions of significant value. Rewards: Perks | Talent For Invention |, | Think Tank |, 10 Intelligence Points, 30 Medicine Points, 30 Repair Points, 30 Science Points, 62,500 Exp.

Sweet, I got a new quest with some pretty hefty rewards to boot.

Delighted to have gotten yet another quest, especially one that would provide me with not one but two whole perks, I continued walking hand in hand with Amata through the network of halls. Walking at a relaxed pace, the two of us eventually stepped onto the elevator and began riding it down to the ground floor, but before we could reach the desired level, I had another thought occur to me.

Now that I'm actually going to return all the gear I've temporarily taken a hold of from these recently recruited men it doesn't exactly sound like such a bright idea to be giving them the tools to revolt with lethal force at any time they wish without putting any sort of countermeasure or failsafe in place. Meaning something has to be done before I give them their stuff back... Oh, I know what I can do. I'll just use Mechu-deru to take control of their power armor frames.

Doing that will grant me full control over their suits, which would allow me to minimize any problems that may occur if any of them decide to try anything. Although, I highly doubt they will if the cheerful reception in the dining hall is anything to go by. Nevertheless, it hasn't been long since I quote unquote recruited them, thus it would be in my best interest to have a method in my back pocket that I could use to stop and prevent any would-be troublemakers from causing any major issues.

Planning on implementing a safety measure that I could use to lock down any shortsighted rebellious elements in their power frames until I wanted to deal with them, I waited for the elevator to reach the ground floor. As soon as the doors opened, I stepped out of it with my other half and instead of moving in the direction of my destination; I ventured off to another part of the manufacturing sector with her.

Shortly thereafter, I came strolling into the area, finding dozens of my robots busy implementing the upgrades I wanted the suits to undergo. Content with the overall progress they were making, I started taking over the power armor frames one by one and in mere moments, my will had infected each of the suits, granting me absolute control over them.

"Okay, I finished what I needed to take care of here. Let's head to the workshop." I told Amata before beginning to turn in the direction we needed to take to get to my personal workshop.

"Ahem… I think you're forgetting something." My partner responded with her hand held out.

"Ahh."

Taking her hand into my own, I asked simply. "Better?"

"Very." She stated in her typical upbeat and bubbly tone of voice.

With Amata now smiling contently, we kept moving at our not too fast pace from prior to us waltzing into this section of the facility and eventually entered my personal workshop. The minute she and I arrived; I gave her the rundown on what we would be working on for the next couple of hours.

"Are you ready to get started?"

"Of course." My female companion answered last before the two of us got busy working on the tasks I laid out.

...

Two hours of hard work later we had accomplished every single thing I had set out for us with my robots speedily running around the robot production area and rapidly implementing the upgrades that will boost the current daily robot production capacity of each individual machine from 6 per day to 10.

Elsewhere, a second crew of worker bots were busy moving loads of materials to the second floor to construct the research lab. And another crew, along with several automated machines, were crafting the many pieces required to produce the force field generators and their associated components.

"We made good time, Amata, great job."

"We did, didn't we? I'm actually quite surprised we were able to accomplish so much within such a short time frame."

"Well, as you know, I've been getting stronger and more capable the longer I'm out here, so it's not that much of a surprise we can accomplish more and more when that is brought into the equation. You've also been improving a lot as well, so there's that to consider too."

"Hmm, I suppose you're right… I do feel like I'm improving at an accelerated rate since we've left home."

Still waiting on my boys to finish performing their upgrades, we spent the time making small talk and discussing this and that. After passing the downtime as such for the next several minutes, they finally completed the job I passed off to them.

"Looks like the robots are finally done upgrading the power armor suits. Let's head upstairs and get geared up and ready to depart."

"Lead the way, dear." She said as she once again grasped my hand.

Doing as directed, I lead the way to the elevator and whilst we were en route; I sent a signal to the robots below, the ones that were with the troops, to round up the men and have them head up to the ground floor, so they could grab their kits and whatever else they wanted from the armory. Finished issuing my newest command in less than a split second, my girl and I raced to our living space on the highest floor, changed into our form fitting Shadow Armors, hopped into our respective suits of power armor, grabbed our weapons, and equipped the rest of our loadouts.

From there, we transitioned to the ground floor and waited for the men we would be taking with us to finish equipping their gear. The minute the last of the stragglers was ready, I led the way to the loading area where the rest of our large group was waiting. Joining the small army of robots that consisted of mostly my worker bots and hauling bots, I gave the command and had everyone begin moving collectively for the large bay doors that I opened for us ahead of time with Mechu-deru.
