"Mom, when can we live together?"
As Bertha Haines was leaving the club, Bartley suddenly tugged at her sleeve and asked, looking up at her with eyes full of hope. Instinctively, she glanced at the man beside her, who picked up his son and replied.
"Once Daddy's birthday is over, we can live together."
Bartley started calculating the time.
"Grandpa said Daddy's birthday is in more than a month. Today is the 21st, and Daddy's birthday is on the 26th of next month. So in 34 days, it will be Daddy's birthday. Can we live together forever in 34 days?"
Amos Smith corrected him, "To be exact, 40 days. On New Year's Day, your mom and I will get our marriage license."
Bartley said excitedly, "That's just when we have a holiday."
Amos asked, "Do you want to go?"
Bartley nodded eagerly, "Yes."
Amos replied, "Well, let's first get Daddy's birthday gift ready."
