Amos Smith went out to take a call.
Bertha Haines kept an eye on the doorway, and when Amos Smith returned, she waved at him. Once he got closer, she purposely used Blanche Wells to ask the question she'd been wanting to ask.
"Miss Wells just told me that you're with me... to get back at me."
Amos Smith's eyebrows furrowed tightly, and his eyes emitted a cold gleam as he looked at Blanche Wells.
Blanche Wells immediately panicked, "I... I was just joking with Miss Norris."
Amos Smith still had a cold expression, "That joke went too far."
Blanche Wells chuckled and eyed Bertha Haines, saying,
"Miss Norris should be someone who can take a joke, and if she knew you well enough, she wouldn't have asked that question. To be honest, you rushed into this engagement; you should at least give Miss Norris time to truly get to know you."
Amos Smith's expression grew worse, "This is between her and me. As a friend, just give your blessings; don't give opinions. I don't want to hear it."
