Chapter 2 - Brunette & Blonde

Regaining my consciousness was a blessing, but it was also a curse. I struggled to regain feeling of my limbs because i was so numb, I had been unconscious for a while probably. I was in a relatively small room, I was on an uncomfortable bed, there was a door to my right and the rest of the room was empty with glass windows covering three of the walls in the room. There was some sort of mass murder on the other end of the windows, it was terrifying to see and every second I looked at the massacre the worse it got.

"Sandra!!!" I heard my brother call.

"I'm here Matthew!" I cried out desperately.

He didn't seem to be worried much about me, he came through the open door to my right with someone coming behind him. The guy was of average height, had medium length brunette hair, and a clean shaven face, he was also wearing all black.

"Get up, we have to go, fast." He said, with little to no emotion shown.

"But what happened to all of these people? Why are they all dead?" I was confused.

"Don't ask too much, we don't have a lot of time, let's go, I will explain later." He said as him and the other guy left the room.

I panicked and quickly followed them, just to get as far away from that horrific scene from the window.

Matthew wouldn't even look at me, which annoyed me as I was confused at everything that has been going on, and he just ignored me.

"I slip in and out of here often." The guy who was with Matthew suddenly told me, but he didn't wait for me to respond and he turned away as he started walking faster.

At last we arrived at a white wooden door, the door number was "291" which was our apartment if I remembered correctly.

The other guy opened the door and I got in first, then Kyle and last was Matthew but he stood at the door, our apartment was nice and tidy as it has always been, me and Matthew had lived together for a while now, after we split up from everyone else, we weren't always on the same page but we respected and supported each other.

"Kyle, stay with Sandra, I will get back to you after I find the rest." Then Matthew bolted out of the door.

Kyle closed the door behind Matthew and turned to me. I didn't know what to say or what to do so I just went in and sat on the nearest chair I could find. Kyle sat across the apartment on the ground, but he was staring at me.

The door slammed open as waves of people started coming inside, all of them talking about the same thing, all of them scared.

While all of this was happening, I had zoned out, I was thinking of my vegan burgers and how much I missed them, because I was very hungry.

I came back to my senses as I saw Kyle approaching me, but he didn't look the same, he was wearing the same outfit but now he was blonde with a square jawline, had blue eyes and a moustache.

"Do you want to come with us?" He startled me with his rather deep voice.

"I'm not sure I want to, I want to stay home."

"You have to, please."

I was concerned as to why he was insisting on me to go, but then I saw Matthew come in and I agreed to go with them. Then I realised everyone who was in the apartment with us was following Matthew and Kyle for some reason.

It felt like we were walking through time and space, like one moment we were walking through a floating glass corridor high up in the sky, and the next we were back at the apartment and another we were back to where I saw the mass murder of people, but every time we changed time and place more and more people were dying, as each second passed our numbers were decreasing.

I heard whispers between Matthew and Kyle about me "I know you do love, I'm not doubting it, but now is not the time." I overheard Matthew say.

I felt like I liked Kyle too, he looked good and seemed like a genuinely caring person.

But his appearance continued to change, between blonde and brunette.

Finally we came to a small room with an old door at the end of it, but there was a solid wall behind us. I walked first to see where the door lead to, I was shocked to see that it was a drop. A drop so high that I couldn't see the ground from where I was standing. I gasped and fell back on my back.

"Are you alright, Sandra?" Kyle rushed to check on me.

"Yeah, yeah, where is Matthew?" I looked around the room but couldn't see him.

"We are the last two left."

My heart dropped and I couldn't believe what he said, I got up and looked out of the door again and there was a steel tower that was placed horizontally, half of it was on a building, but the other half was hanging off of it in the air.

"If I slip and fall, I will be smooched." I whispered under my breath.

All of a sudden Kyle starts laughing. That got me so confused, we had to jump down and most likely die because of it, what was so funny to him.

"It's all a joke, Sandra." He said as he continued to laugh.

Then the people who died started to re-appear, and amongst them was Matthew, we were also back in mine and Matthew's apartment. So, all of it was Kyles 'Joke'.

I was furious about what happened, I couldn't do anything but sit on the couch and cry out of anger and frustration.

Kyle nodded at everyone to leave, he comes and sits next to me and hugs me as I continue my cries.

I realised that he had been his brunette self for a while now, so I decided to confront him about the ever-changing appearance.

"This is me, I promise, but some times there are complications out of my control, they cause my looks to shift sometimes." He explained "But I am real, and I really care about you."
