James thought about how much he should share. He didn't know them, and he certainly had no idea who or what they were connected to, so he decided to play it safe. "Sorry bout that, my name is James." He thought they would have pressed for more, but the man in front of him just nodded. "Nice to meet you, James. I'm Bruno, the bouncer from last night, and you've met my little sister Trixy." Trixy huffed as she laid the food on the table. "Only by two minutes", she argued. Bruno got up, heading to the table and ruffling her hair. "Yup, two whole minutes older, and that will never change." He looked back over his shoulder at James, "Come on, mate, grab some grub. We'll fill you in while we eat."
James stood, ensuring that the knot at his waist was intact, and made his way to the table. Trixy brought in the last of the food, and Bruno was civilised enough to grab the plates and utensils. The three sat down and began to eat. James didn't realise that he was so hungry and had almost finished his plate when he asked again about what had happened. Bruno looked away for a bit before shrugging and saying, "Not much. The usual drunken broken broken-hearted guy stuff. You know, you got wasted, unable to answer any of our questions, your phone was dead, so we couldn't call anyone, and on the way home, you threw up on yourself, leading to me having the honours of cleaning you up and Trixy washing your clothes."
James looked at them, shocked. He, the great Alpha James, got so drunk that he soiled himself like a teen? It seemed so ordinary that he burst out laughing. "I'm glad you found it funny, mate. You're lucky we had an extra room at the moment for you to crash." James calmed himself, shaking his head. It was nice to have a normal experience for a change. He took a bite and chewed slowly, wondering if he could get more answers. "Sorry for laughing when I should be thanking you for taking care of me in my ridiculous state. Most people would have left me in a dumpster, but why did you help?" Bruno and Trixy looked at each other, that twin thing happening again. Trixy shrugged, and Bruno continued. "We felt sorry for you. I've seen a lot of men come in with a lot of pain, but yours was different. We didn't want to leave you alone." Trixy jumped in, "Especially when you started to cry for your mate."
James put down his fork, the reason for his dive into the bottle coming back to him. Trixy placed her hand on his, "It's okay if you tell us, but you don't have to." Looking up to these two siblings who helped him like no one had ever before, he felt like he could open up. He shared what happened, leaving nothing out except for the racy stuff. The table was cleared, and fresh coffee was placed before them by the time he finished his story. The twins were speechless at his honesty, and both of them placed their hands on his shoulders. He soon felt a warm glow enter his body, and he noticed a faint purple mist leaving them and entering into him. James wanted to pull away, but Trixy hushed him. James allowed himself to relax and felt his body return to its prime state, all traces of the hangover gone. "What..how did you do that?" he asked, not with fear but curiosity.
Bruno looked at his sister, and she nodded. "We are not normal shifters, neither are we fea or witches or any one thing, but more like a mixture of all the species. We come from an ancient line of beings, many of whom in our tribe believe are the originals of all the species that we now know. Our history is that two gods fell in love. Their love was forbidden, so they ran away and hid on earth. They gave birth, each child being a different species. They were caught and, as a punishment, they were killed, but their love was so strong that every fourth generation their souls were reborn so they could reunite and give birth to special children who have multiple abilities. It is said that when they meet, they will know, and their original memories will surface."
"Our parents were that couple," Trixy piped in, "They lived in a small kingdom far away from this place, hidden from the world. My father came from a long line of guards who protected the royal family. We were happy there, but one day the kingdom was attacked and my parents were killed trying to save the king and queen. They had a little daughter, a princess, and it would have been our job to protect her when we all came of age, but she disappeared during the massacre that night. We don't know if she survived or if she was captured."
"Our parents always told me to protect my sister with my life, and during the chaos, I knocked her out and ran away. I'm not proud, but keeping her safe was and is my top priority." James looked at the two holding hands and wondered how nice it would be if his pup could have a sibling bond as strong as theirs. He stood, feeling a bit left out, but knowing that it was time he acted bravely like the young Bruno and faced his fears. "Thank you so much for your help, but I know it's time for me to face the music. I should get dressed, so can I have my clothes?"
Bruno went to get it from the laundry room in the basement, while James helped Trixy clean up. He felt like he had found some new allies and hoped they could keep in touch. As he wiped the last dish, there was a knock. Trixy opened the door, thinking that her brother had locked himself out again, when she was shoved so hard by the opening door that she fell. James rushed over to her, cried, and saw men in covert gear barging in with weapons, trained on the poor girl on the floor. Before he knew what was happening, James crouched protectively over Trixy, he and his wolf ready to shift, when he saw Trishanna standing in the doorway, her eyes filling with tears.
