"So happy? Looks like you did well on today's test?" Julius Goodman's clear and gentle voice came from the other end of the phone.
Ava Kent, the little diva, replied animatedly, "When have I ever done poorly on a test?"
Julius recalled someone getting chased around the yard by her mom for scoring just over sixty in math as a child and couldn't help but laugh.
"Yes, our Ava is impressive."
What else can you do when your girlfriend wants to save face?
Of course, just praise her with your eyes closed.
"So, are you coming over?" Ava pressed on.
"Of course, how could I not come when my girlfriend asks? I'll head back later."
"Oh? You're outside?"
She assumed he was already home.
"Yeah, went to the shop today."
"You've started working? Won't it be inconvenient to come back?"
"No, it's not busy."
Julius reassured her, "I've polished those two ornaments for you, I'll bring them back later."
"Great, I'll let your mom know so she won't cook by herself."
"Okay."
