Chapter 16 - Chapter 16: Sister, Can’t You See Me?

The fire has been extinguished.

The police approached Bess Bennett, glanced at her broken wrist, and pretended they didn't see it.

Then, in an official tone, they said, "Mrs. Bennett, please come with us for an investigation."

In Bess Bennett's disoriented mind, she thought everything would be fine once she signed the papers. Hearing that she needed to be investigated, she immediately shouted in rage, "I didn't start the fire! What are you doing? I know your chief, how dare you arrest me!"

Saying such things in public was practically a professional way to ruin her own husband.

Many people's expressions became indescribable, thinking there would be a mess to clean up when Mr. Wright got back.

The police's faces turned grim, and they sternly said, "We'll know the specifics after the investigation. It doesn't matter who you know, the law is the law. Take her away!"

Bess Bennett became even more agitated and irritable, having long forgotten about maintaining her dignity or pretending to be an elegant, noble woman.

She screamed, "How dare you arrest me! When my husband comes back, you'll all be out of your jobs! Amelia Wright, you wretched brat, I'll skin you alive..."

The guests on site heard Bess Bennett cursing in such vulgar terms and couldn't believe their eyes.

People had already heard that the second wife of the Wright family was a dancer who married up. Everyone thought the rumors were false, but now, seeing this, they realized she indeed lacked any manners.

This art exhibition today, Bess Bennett didn't invite a single member from the old Wright family residence. Their second house had been oppressed by the first and third houses for many years. Now, they wanted to show off their status through an alliance with the Shaw family, but things ended up like this, and there wasn't even anyone to step up and stop Bess Bennett from embarrassing herself.

The Wright family matriarch disliked unsophisticated people and matters the most.

Once, Bess Bennett and she teamed up to bully and insult Amelia Wright. Now that Bess Bennett had lost face, these two would end up tearing each other apart.

Amelia Wright watched Bess Bennett ranting and swearing, slightly tilting her head. Her expression was as endearing as when she had killed Ava Wright in a past life.

Deep-seated vengeance needs to be slow and painful; an easy death wouldn't satisfy the grudge.

She wanted to make them lose everything they desired! Have all their loved ones betray them! Die with infamy!

Godfery Shaw seemed to have lost his patience, indifferently lifting his steps to leave.

Amelia Wright also collected her malicious smile and quickly followed Godfery Shaw.

Her goal today achieved, she naturally didn't want to stay any longer with the disgusting Wright family.

She claimed she would sue the Wright family but had no evidence; the supposed attempted murder was fake. When Marsh Smith wakes up, he'd testify that the fire started in the room. Her only purpose in returning to the Wright family today was to sever ties.

While everyone was away, she used thunderous means to force Bess Bennett to sign the disavowal paper in public.

Mission accomplished, see you next time!

...

Upstairs, Ava Wright grew impatient as she waited for Marsh Smith and Amelia Wright to come up.

It wasn't until she smelled smoke that she frowned and decided to check it out.

In her grand formal dress, she stood proudly like a princess on the stairs, posing elegantly, and asked in frustration, "Where did all the guests go?"

Just then, Ava Wright saw someone, and the displeasure on her face instantly turned to delight.

Young Master Shaw was here!

Was he here to attend her art exhibition?

Full of joy, Ava Wright lifted her dress and gracefully hurried down the stairs toward Godfery Shaw.

She spoke with a sweetness almost dripping, "Young Master, it's such a privilege for you to attend the exhibition. Did my sister not return with you?"

However, Godfery Shaw didn't even glance at Ava Wright, acting as if she didn't exist, simply brushing past her.

Ava Wright's gentle smile froze on her face.

The next moment, she saw the woman obscured by Godfery Shaw's tall figure.

It was Amelia Wright!

How dare she show her face here?

Wasn't she with Marsh Smith? How was she with Young Master?

This man, who Ava could only look up to, how dare Amelia get so close to him!

Amelia Wright also noticed Ava Wright. Her gaze flitted over Ava's abdomen, and she said meaningfully, "Sister, didn't you see me?"

That look was like a sharp dagger, poised to pierce flesh.
