Chapter 33 - Chapter 33: Joyce's Kindness

Amelia Wright put down her pen, tucked away the painting, and decided not to look at it anymore.

Her stomach ached sharply, and she planned to go downstairs to the kitchen to get something to eat.

Although she didn't care about her own body, if it couldn't hold out, she wouldn't even be able to pursue revenge.

Amelia walked to the staircase entrance and unexpectedly encountered the butler, Joyce, who was on his way up.

Joyce had returned overnight.

Amelia was prepared to accept the old man's disdain.

However, upon seeing Amelia, Joyce was quite calm.

He was even friendlier than the first time they met.

Amelia felt puzzled, not knowing where this friendliness came from.

Joyce smiled and said, "Young Madam, it's perfect timing that you're coming down. I made some food for you. I heard you were sick; just a few days ago you were fine, and now your health has slipped. Those rough folks like Hailey Smith don't know what to feed a sick person."

Only then did Amelia notice the warm, gentle smile on Joyce's face, and he was holding a bowl of fragrant, soft porridge with some light side dishes. Was he really bringing them to her?

She was stunned by the word "child."

Her mother used to call her "child" with so much concern in her words.

"Young Madam, are you daydreaming? Come over and eat. I'll make you an appetizer. Let me tell you, even with his picky tastes, Lennon can't find fault with my cooking. It's much better than the chefs at the Imperial Garden. I'm just too old and lazy to make it often."

Those words, "child," instinctively made Amelia follow Joyce downstairs and sit by the dining table.

She watched as Joyce placed the food, one by one, in front of her.

Amelia lowered her head and asked, "Joyce, do you not dislike me?"

"Child, what nonsense are you saying? How could I dislike you! Young Madam marrying Lennon means you're family. In the future, I'll protect you with my life. The Wright family raised you to be sickly and pale. From now on, I'll personally prepare your meals."

Amelia opened her mouth but couldn't speak.

So, in her previous life, Joyce, who wanted her gone desperately, was actually willing to protect her with his life in the beginning.

It was her constant self-destructive behavior, her endless arguments with Godfery Shaw, that made everyone at the Imperial Garden hate her.

Now that she wasn't causing trouble, Joyce considered her family.

Because she married Godfery Shaw, his relatives treated her as one of their own.

What she never got from the Wright family after 20 years of begging and pleading, she now easily received.

Amelia kept her head down, sipping the porridge, and for some reason, her eyes turned slightly red.

Joyce brought over the appetizer, "Why are your eyes red? Did the porridge burn you? Eat slowly, eating slow won't hurt your stomach."

"Okay." Amelia paused, slowing her eating pace.

She was unusually obedient.

Joyce looked at her with growing satisfaction, deciding to nurture Young Madam well in hopes that one day, Lennon might come to his senses and perhaps the Imperial Garden would have a little bundle of joy.

Under Joyce's gentle care, Amelia had the slowest meal she'd ever had, and her stomach seemed to hurt less.

Someone in the cold depths of despair sometimes just needs a little warmth.

...

The next day.

Early in the morning, Amelia found the Imperial Garden bustling with activity.

Joyce was organizing people, all busy here and there.

Seeing Amelia was up, Joyce immediately waved to her, "Young Madam, come and see your new room."

Amelia looked toward the direction of Joyce's busy work, that was Godfery Shaw's room, she asked, puzzled, "My room?"

Joyce nodded, "Yes, from now on, Lennon's room is Young Madam's. How could the lady of the Imperial Garden stay in a guest room? Lennon's master bedroom is the best, and I've moved him to a guest room. Now this is your room. I've done a little decorating; go see if you're satisfied, and if there's anything else you need, we'll add it slowly."

"This… isn't this not quite right?" Amelia's expression was less cold, appearing somewhat cute.

Evicting Godfery Shaw from the master bedroom...

This is more than just not right; it's very wrong!

Joyce, however, said matter-of-factly, "There's nothing wrong with it. What man lets his wife be wronged unless one day Young Madam lets Lennon in; otherwise, he'll stay in the guest room."

Amelia hurriedly said, "Godfery Shaw wouldn't agree to that."

Others might not know, but she was very aware, Godfery Shaw didn't like her. Would you let a pet have your bedroom?

Joyce was already pulling Amelia towards the master bedroom, "Young Madam, rest assured, I already asked Lennon, and he agreed."

Impossible to agree?

Once Amelia entered the master bedroom, she was even more dumbfounded.

If she hadn't been in there before, she would have suspected she'd entered the wrong room.

The room was transformed into a light pink scheme, with a two-meter bed covered in a beautiful canopy, and even the carpet and curtains changed to a pale yellow. The whole room was soft and pink, like a little princess's room.

Amelia found it baffling how Godfery Shaw tolerated Joyce decorating his room like this.

Wasn't it said this man strongly disliked anyone touching his things?

Wasn't it said this man had a fiercely personal domain attitude, not even allowing ordinary folks near it, let alone his room?

And now, how has this come to be?

Even if Godfery Shaw was being nice, was he not being overly generous?

Joyce eagerly asked, "Young Madam, are you satisfied? If not, the renovation team is downstairs waiting, we'll change it right away."

Amelia still shook her head, "Is Lennon in the Imperial Garden? I want to talk to him."

Joyce immediately replied, "Lennon is in the study, Young Madam go quickly. Also, you can spend more time in the study. Our Imperial Garden study has many collected books."

Joyce seemed eager for Amelia and Godfery Shaw to spend time alone together.

Amelia went to the study and knocked before entering.

Godfery Shaw was on the sofa, reading, appearing cold and distant.

In an instant, Amelia seemed to hear again, the cold command telling her to get out of the car.

The atmosphere between them seemed even colder.

Finally, Amelia took the initiative to ask, "Lennon, I'm here to ask about the room situation."

Godfery continued to flip through his book, not lifting his head, as if he didn't care about this situation, casually saying, "Joyce arranged it, no need to ask me."

"But that is your room."

"The whole Imperial Garden is mine, there's no difference between rooms."

Amelia was taken aback, not knowing how to respond.

Is it really counted that way?

Does Joyce have that much authority in the Imperial Garden?

Once again, they fell into an awkward silence.

After a while, Amelia quietly asked, "Is your injury... better?"

"It's fine."

"Glad to hear that."

Unable to bear the atmosphere, Amelia asked then walked out of the study.

Godfery Shaw's book pages were flipping aimlessly, while his eyes glanced at Amelia's departing figure, containing emotions buried and unreadable beneath the cold gaze.

She... will she like that room?

Maybe after changing the room, she won't be upset about being kicked out of the car.
